-- James Irvin (15-8) can't seem to escape controversy. In his return Saturday to Gladiator Challenge, the promotion in which the Californian made his MMA start in 2003 through 2004, Irvin was called for an illegal knee, overturning what would have been a knockout over Mike Crisman to a no contest. The 32-year-old Irvin is 1-1 with one no contest since departing from the UFC in August 2010.
-- TUF 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero improved to 15-2 Saturday with a third-round submission win over Jeremy Larsen at Rage in the Cage 148 in Chandler, Ariz.
-- Canada's Jordan Mein scored the biggest win of his career Friday, beating veteran Joe Riggs at Wreck MMA in Quebec, Canada. Mein stopped Riggs with punches in the second round to up his record to 19-7. Riggs was recently announced as a competitor on next season's Bellator.
In other Wreck MMA action, UFC veterans Kalib Starnes (12-5-1) and Mark Holst (9-3) each picked up victories by way of rear-naked choke.
-- TUF 8 light heavyweight finalist Vinny Magalhaes, who recently inked a six-fight non-exclusive deal to continue fighting for M-1 Global, defeated Damien Knight via submission at MMA Xplosion on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Well that sucks.
-I want Irvin to win his way back to the UFC and this fight might have been it.
-Efrain was my last years NPFFL pick and he did not do me justice. I hope he gets his act together and starts fighting up to his potential again.
-Always sucks to see Riggs lose. He used to be a guy i looked out for.
-Kalin Starnes... what can be said about him except that he ruined his career in his running a marathon fight. Dude has become a clown in the MMA community.
-Vinny i never really liked him but he does have some slick BJJ. If he could just adapt it to MMA better and become more well rounded then we can see some good stuff from the guy.
