Is it put up or shut up time for BigFoot?

Recently I have been thinking of the parallels between Antonio Silva were he is career wise now and were Ben Rothwell was when he fought Andrei Arlovski at the first Affliction show. Both were champions of defunct organizations (Elite XC/IFL) and both were top 15 fringe top 10 at time fighters. Just like it was for Rothwell it would seem it is now timefor Big Foot to prove he either belongs with the top of the divsion or time for him to quit masquerading as somebody who does.

I'm not sure Fedor is one of those guys you'd be able to utilize as a "put up or shut up" opponent.

And honestly, if he loses to Fedor, is there any real shame in it? Last I checked Fedor has only really lost to 1 guy, so its not as if a loss should be a black mark on the career of Silva.

Personally I would be more concerned for Silva if he were fighting a fringe top 10-15 candidate, and didnt show impressively.

I guess maybe what you're really getting at is "is it time for Antonio Silva to prove he can be a #1-3 HW?" and I think the answer to that question is "no." I dont think he'll ever be a long time HW champion. I simply dont see explosive quickness in him that so many of the current top 5 guys have. He's got a solid bag of skills, but not the quick transitions, or that "it factor" that the current best of the best have.

I still think he's a legit 5-15 guy, just not top 5. He probably doesnt get the credit he deserves, but I've noticed most guys outside of the top 5 never usually do.

I am not exactly saying Silva has to beat Fedor but if Fedor Tim Sylvia's him then its pretty much it for him isn't it?

It for him? As in he's done from MMA, or more so "it for him in terms of ever sniffing the title?" If the latter, then yeah you probably have an argument... the former? Hell no. 1) its the HW division, more KO's and shorter fights than ANY other division 2) It's Fedor.

No matter what happens I think Bigfoot Silva still has a future in the sport, as his overall size and BJJ skills could still pose problems for a lot of guys, particularly the more wrestling based UFC fighters.

All in all, I just dont think Fedor is the opponent to use for a "put up or shut up" question.

I meant the latter especially considering at 31 he is not a young up and comer anymore. Its go time for him IMO he needs to go out and if not win make it one hell of a fight because otherwise I don't think he will ever get himself back into position to be considered a legit HW contender.

Yes if he wants to make a run at being a top 5 HW he needs to have an impressive showing against Fedor. He actually doesn't even have to win but if its a war or a close fight then maybe. If he goes out and gets KO'd quick after almost getting KO'd in his last fight against a LHW it would not look good for him.

I think Silva is overrated. Each time he is given a name fighter he has a hard time. His wins really are pretty meh so far. He struggles with even the decent fighters. I don't think he will ever be in that eite group. But if he loses it won't change much. He will still be at the end of the top 10 or right out of it. I have never really viewed him as a legit threat to the top ranks. I don't see a way for him to win tonight. He is good at a lot of things, but not really great at anything. I think he is too slow for Fedor.

If he wants to really be in the mix for top 5 and really get his career kicking, he needs to have a good showing against Fedor for sure. However, what qualifies as a good showing against Fedor?

Rogers had a good showing against Fedor, he got brutally knocked out but he did a lot better than people expected, and look at him now. People look passed him like he's a bum, but in reality he's won all his fights except Fedor and Overeem, the two very best HW's in the world along with Cain, and he's beaten everyone else, including KO'ing Arlovski in a few seconds.

He's not a bum, he's not the best, he got beat by Overeem and Fedor, who hasn't lost to Fedor minus Werdum, and who is giving Overeem any sort of trouble these days?

My point is, even if Bigfoot puts in a good showing against Fedor, you will always have that crowd of people who will completely discredit him, and since he's in SF, that doubles.

Rogers looked completely harmless and incapable against Overeem and then went to a controversial decision with Rueben Vireal who is a complete and utter can. Rogers stock was high after the Fedor fight its his two showings since that buries him.
