Give Antonio Silva his due...
I refreshed the page a second ago and there were eight threads about Fedor, ranging in topic from his probable retirement, his age, dropping to LHW, etc., and yet, there wasn't a single thread relating to Antonio Silva's incredible achievement. It's clear that Fedor will go down in history as one of, if not the, best MMA fighters of all time. No other fighter from this point in history onward will win 25+ fights in a row and embody the same mythical status as Fedor.
That being said, while we witnessed the end of an era, we simultaneously became witnesses to the breakthrough of a new MMA star, Antonio Silva. Whether dominating Fedor on the ground with his extensive BJJ prowess or exchanging damaging stand-up blows with a legend, Antonio Silva put on a performance that was at least remarkable, and at most exceptional. A 6-1 underdog, Silva stared arguably the best fighter of all time down and imposed his will on the "last emperor", a feat that no fighter had ever done. While nobody could have predicted the outcome of the fight or the announcement that came afterward, Silva proved that he is capable of dismantling the best that MMA had to offer him, and in the process, proved that he is a serious threat to anyone in the HW division.
