Overeem's title will still be on the line

Quote:
Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will put his title on the line June 18 against Fabricio Werdum, the promotion announced on Tuesday.

The Strikeforce Grand Prix heavyweight tournament quarterfinal showdown will be held at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Overeem will enter the cage with a professional record of 34-11-0 and one no contest. Werdum, who owns a win over Overeem, sports a mark of 14-4-1.

Former UFC champion Josh Barnett (29-5-0) takes on hard-hitting Brett Rogers (11-2-0) in the co-feature. This fight is also a Strikeforce heavyweight tournament quarterfinal.

"We are really excited to head to Dallas with two outstanding quarterfinal heavyweight Grand Prix fights," Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said.

Fan favorite Gina Carano (7-1-0) puts an end to her cage hiatus on the card. Carano (7-1-0) has not fought since August 15, 2009, when she lost a 145-pound title bout to Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.

An opponent has yet to be named for Carano.

"With Overeem vs. Werdum, Rogers vs. Barnett, as well as the return of Gina Carano, Strikeforce is bringing one of its best cards ever to American Airlines Center," Coker said.

The event also includes a bout between highly touted heavyweights Daniel Cormier (7-0-0) and Shane Del Rosario (11-0-0).

Valentijn Overeem (29-25-0), the elder brother of Alistair, takes on Chad Griggs (10-1-0) in a heavyweight fight.

I don't care for the title honestly...
I just wanna see Overeem smash Werdum.

That's all.

Alistair Overeem set for nontitle bout
By Franklin McNeil

Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem will face Fabricio Werdum on June 18 in a nontitle fight, the promotion announced on Tuesday.

Looks like McNeil just booted something and got corrected. Which sucks, because I hate when champions fight in non-title bouts at their own weight class.

Hopes raised and dashed quite expertly. Well played, McNeil. Well played...

Some people think that they can convey either a philosophy on life or a complex political statement using a signature on the internet. I'm not one of them.

Doesn't much matter since the belt won't be changing hands either way. Overeem's gonna embarrass Werdum

People will continue to count Werdum out. Overeem may be the best stand up fighter in the HW division but Werdum has the best ground game. Werdum has passable stand up and will completely outclass the Reem if this hits the ground. Don't count Werdum out yet people.

I see him doing some magic in the ground as well but i just don't see this one hitting the mat.

This fight isn't going to the ground. The only reason Werdum subbed Overeem years ago was because overeem took Werdum down. Werdum had no success taking Overeem down in that fight and he will have no success at doing it in this fight to Ubereem.

This is going to be violent.
