Quote:
A bout between top prospects James Terry (10-2 MMA, 5-1 SF) and Caros Fodor (8-2 MMA, 3-0 SF) has been tapped the headliner of next month's Strikeforce Challengers 16 event.

Terry today tweeted news of the bout.

An event official told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the fight still is in the process of being finalized but that the matchup is the intended Showtime-televised main event.

Strikeforce Challengers 16 takes place June 24 at ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. In addition to Terry vs. Fodor, the televised main card features Ryan Couture against an opponent to be announced.

Terry, a Cung Le-trained fighter, looks for his fourth straight Strikeforce victory following a decision 2010 win over David Marshall and 2011 knockouts of Lucas Gamaza and Josh Thornburg. The Californian's only loss in Strikeforce came to fellow prospect Tarec Saffiedine back in 2010.

Fodor also looks for his fourth straight win under the Strikeforce banner. After a submission loss to Nate Hannah at Alaska Fighting Championship 48, the Washington-based fighter signed with Strikeforce and posted consecutive wins over Ousmane Thomas Diagne (decision), Derek Getzel (submission) and David Douglas (TKO). Seven of his eight wins have come via stoppage, six via submission.

Welterweights Jason High (13-3 MMA, 0-0 SF) and Quinn Mulhern (15-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) are set to fight at Strikeforce Challengers 16.

High announced the fight today on his official Twitter account, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) subsequently confirmed the matchup with sources close to the promotion.

Strikeforce Challengers 16 takes place June 24 at ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. The night's main card features lightweight prospect Ryan Couture (2-0 MMA, 2-0 SF) against an opponent yet to be determined, as well as a light heavyweight matchup between Lorenz Larkin (10-0 MMA, 1-0 SF) and Gian Villante (7-2 MMA, 0-1 SF).

As MMAjunkie.com reported earlier this month, Mulhern was targeted for the early summer event after signing a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce.

A 13-time King of the Cage veteran, Mulhern made his debut in 2007. He currently carries a seven-fight win streak that began after his lone career defeat, an October 2009 loss to UFC vet Michael Guymon.

Mulhern has fought the distance just twice in his 16-fight career, and 10 of his victories have been earned via submission.

Mulhern fought most recently in April, when he earned a first-round submission victory over Anselmo Martinez. In 2010, the Santa Fe Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu product fought six times, including three times in a seven-week span that included a TKO victory over longtime veteran Rich Clementi.

High most recently was seen on the HDNet-televised Titan Fighting Championship 16 event, where he submitted Strikeforce and Bellator vet Rudy Bears with a guillotine choke in 51 seconds. It undoubtedly was a relief to score a quick win after he took respected Japanese veteran Hayato Sakurai the distance at DREAM "Dynamite!! 2010" and scored a huge upset with a split decision.

The pair of victories upped High's streak to four after a pair of high-profile losses sent him back to the drawing board. He entered the 2009 DREAM welterweight grand prix and dispatched Yuya Shirai and Andre Galvao in the opening and semifinal rounds, respectively, before getting knocked out by a head kick from Marius Zaromskis in the tournament finale. He then signed a UFC contract only to be released by the promotion after a points loss to Charlie Brenneman at UFC Fight Night 21.

Little Couture is at it again. Following in the footsteps of his father. Considering his father just retired sounds good.

They added the undercard fights for the Challengers show:

Quote:
The preliminary card for next month's Strikeforce Challengers 16 event is official with four fights.

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported, bouts include welterweights Jason High (13-3 MMA, 0-0 SF) vs. Quinn Mulhern (15-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) and welterweights Yuri Villefort (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) vs. Travis Bush (5-2-1 MMA, 0-0 SF).

New additions include middleweights Derek Brunson (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) vs. Jeremy Hamilton (8-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) and light heavyweights Trevor Smith (7-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) vs. Keith Berry (10-6 MMA, 0-0 SF).

Strikeforce Challengers 16 takes place June 24 at ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. The night's main card airs on Showtime. Caros Fodor vs. James Terry headlines the event.

Brunson, a three-time NCAA Division II All-American-wrestler, launched his pro career in May 2010 and owns six first-round stoppage victories in six career fights. With four knockouts and two submissions, he's posted an average fight time of just 70 seconds.

Hamilton also has posted a string of quick finishes in his three-year pro career. After a split-decision victory in his pro debut, the Army veteran and Minnesotan has posted seven straight first-round stoppage victories (three via knockout and four via submission).

Smith, meanwhile, is a Washington-based fighter and SportFight and CageSport veteran who's riding a three-fight win streak (with all of the wins coming via first-round submission). In fact, aside from a loss to IFL/Strikeforce vet Devin Cole, all of his wins have come via first-round stoppage (one knockout and six via submission).

Berry is a WEC, Gladiator Challenge and EliteXC veteran who recently saw a four-fight win streak come to an end with a loss to notable Brett Cooper. The Californian owns seven knockouts and three submissions among his 10 career wins.

And of course there are no amateur fights on the undercard. Maybe we will be seeing some rising stars on the card. May Little Couture continue to rise in the MMA world.

The best unaired prelim got promoted to the main card with High vs Mulhern:

Quote:
An intriguing welterweight bout between Jason High (13-3 MMA, 0-0 SF) and Quinn Mulhern (15-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) has been promoted to the televised main card of Friday's Strikeforce Challengers 16 event.

High announced the news via Twitter.

As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported this past week, the spot opened when a middleweight bout between Antwain Britt (11-5 MMA, 1-2 SF) and Danillo Villefort (13-3 MMA, 0-0 SF) was scratched due to injuries to both fighters.

Strikeforce Challengers 16 takes place June 24 at ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. The main card airs on Showtime.

A 13-time King of the Cage veteran, Mulhern made his debut in 2007. He currently carries a seven-fight win streak that began after his lone career defeat, an October 2009 loss to UFC vet Michael "Joker" Guymon. Mulhern has fought the distance just twice in his 16-fight career, and 10 of his victories have come via submission.

2010" and scored a huge upset with a split-decision victory.

Prior to his recent four-fight win streak, High had signed a UFC contract only to be released by the promotion after a points loss to Charlie Brenneman at UFC Fight Night 21.

The latest Strikeforce Challengers 16 event includes:

MAIN CARD

* Caros Fodor vs. James Terry
* Ryan Couture vs. Matt Ricehouse
* Lorenz Larkin vs. Gian Villante
* Julia Budd vs. Germaine de Randamie
* Jason High vs. Quinn Mulhern

PRELIMINARY CARD (un-aired)

* Derek Brunson vs. Jeremy Hamilton
* Travis Bush vs. Ryan LaFlare
* Keith Berry vs. Trevor Smith

I think Strikeforce is allowing Zuffa fighters to get more fights in that normally don't get them. Either that or is allowing fighters to get a chance at redemption. Maybe Strikeforce may stay around a little longer.

I don't like the fight professor or whatever his name is. In fact I'd like for him to shut the **** up.

Well either way that fight was all Jason High. He just kept taking Mulhern down. Not surprising considering he's trained by King Mo Lawal.
