New MMA weight classes

As lovely as MMA is the sport still needs more variance in weight classes.

We have a good 20lb gap in this sport as opposed to boxing's 3 or 4lb gap.

What if there are two fighters on the ground of equal skill and heart but the other outweighs the other so it's a 15lb advantage. Fifteen lbs is light right? Well try saying that 10 minutes into the fight when you're mounted!

Has anyone heard or any rumors of adding to the weight classes? I want to fight professionally and my natural is 140-150lbs. If I entered lightweight it is usually 160lbs and under, that's big disadvantage.

I really hope a featherweight class is added. I know the sport isn't too old and that's why we lack the variance but lets hope at maximum length of five years new classes will be added.

Wow I can't believe you just said that. I bet all those guys have trained way harder than you ever have. Lets see you become a Shooto champ in any weight division.

The problem with millions of weight classes is that there aren't enough quality mma fighters to fill them.

Exactly. I think in 5 to 7 years when the next generation of fighters come to the forefront. There are more of them and, hopefully, the weight classes will vary and then the major organizations will change their classes. Although, I think that the nature of grappling (at least BJJ) make the small classes aren't as big a factor as in boxing.
