Alistair Overeem claims Zuffa is threatening to.....

Alistair Overeem is claiming that his managers have told him that Zuffa officials are threatening to eliminate him from the Strikeforce GP. The reason being that they want the next round of the tournament on Sept. 10, and Alistair says that is too soon. This was revealed during an interview on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. He seems quite firm in his stance, and totally pissed; calm, but pissed. This could be a big blow to the GP, and, perhaps more importantly, Alistair's chances of making the jump to the UFC.

Here is the link to the show, but the interview is about over and they usually take a day to upload the video.

This will probably pop up somewhere else. You guys are just going to have to trust me on this until then...

Yeah i saw that too and was quite shocked! It is quite short notice if you think about 6 weeks-ish until sep 10 and last week no one trains so 5 weeks ? and he not had chance to bring in specialist guys! Fighters normally want a 8week camp so i think its a bit unfair even more so if you think silva has had 6months to train for 1 fighter?

Although as much of a fan of overeem i am, been so static to a single data kinda makes me think hes on a calendar. You know a cycle calendar I dont wanna believe it but it makes you think!

Wow. I hadn't thought of that! It does seem weird how he refuses to fight in Sept., but he's ready to go in October. Excellent post.

His managers told him eh. It's his life and career and something as important as this one would think he would handle this issue personally. One phone call from him to Zuffa would clear this up instantly.

Maybe he can fight Fedor and then join the UFC. Overeem wants to fight Fedor he has said many times. Who cares about the Strikeforce GP. Overeem is the champion. If another guy is crowned champion and doesn't fight Overeem then he will be a disputed champion, and people will lose interest in the Strikeforce Heavyweight division.

Yup. Never understood why Overeem's belt wasn't on the line. What is the real point behind the tournament if not to crown the best HW in Strikeforce. Hopefully he goes on to win the GP. If he fails to do so the GP will do more harm in the long run then good. But that doesn't mean it won't be entertaining.

Shit has been confirmed; he's been pulled from the tournament. So many questions now, not many answers. Is he UFC bound? On roids and can't cycle off in time? Is he scared of big foot?

Not trying to be a troll, just asking the questions since no answers have come up. I hope it's him getting out of SF so he goes to the UFC. Maybe they'll strip him of the belt and the tournament will be for the belt!

wow, good post dude. I haven't thought of that, but it would make sense. He hasn't been injured in the Werdum bout and probably already had a good camp up to his last fight, so he should be in shape. really makes you think why he refuses to fight in september.
