Strikeforce: Robbie Lawler vs Tim Kennedy

Kennedy wins by UD

Round 1 - Herb Dean gets us started. Kennedy lunges and misses with a punch. He instead lands a low kick. The fighters bounce and circle, but little is thrown early. Neither wants to be the first to the punch. Kennedy eats a punch as he throws a low kick that hits the groin and prompts a timeout. Lawler is good to go quickly, and we're underway again. Kennedy shoots for a takedown, but Lawler easily snuffs it out. Kennedy moves in twice and eats heavy shots both times. They restart, and Lawler has some swagger in his step. The fighters collide with knees, but Kennedy moves and scrambles for the takedown. They battle on the ground, and Lawler twice is warned about grabbing the fence. They continue scrambling, and Kennedy ends up with a headlock position with Lawler kneeling. Kennedy then looks to take his back, but Lawler circles and returns to his feet. Kennedy moves in with a left and resets. Kennedy shoots and gets the takedown after dipping low, and he ends up in side control. He then moves to mount and flattens out Lawler. Kennedy delivers a couple punches and tries to keep Lawler from rolling, but Lawler escapes in the process. They scramble on the feet before the round ends. It's close, but MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Kennedy based on the aggression.

Round 2 - Kennedy works low kicks, but Lawler is unaffected. Kennedy shoots, but Lawler sprawls and fends it off. On the reset, Lawler crouches low and circles. Kennedy misses on a low kick. Kennedy presses forward with punches that come up short. Kennedy misses on a front kick. Kennedy closes the distance, and they clinch. Kennedy wrestles him to the mat and seated position, but a left uppercut on the way in must have scored because Kennedy is cut. He then flattens him out, though Kennedy is bleeding badly from the head. Kennedy moves into half guard and attempts mount, but Lawler halts his progress while avoiding the blood from above. Kennedy unloads a few punches before Lawler corrals him again. Kennedy follows with heavy elbows, one after another. Kennedy works punches to the head and body as he postures up. The blows keep coming in bursts. He follows with hammerfists to the gut followed by punches to the head. Kennedy closes out the round in the dominant position. Round 3 - Lawler takes the center of the cage as Kennedy circles the perimeter. Kennedy looks to shoot, but Lawler scampers away. Lawler crouches low again. Kennedy throws a front kick to the knee and then eats an uppercut. Lawler is stalking and looking confident. Kennedy shoots, but Lawler fends it off. Kennedy throws a soft head kick that partially lands. Lawler throws a leading knee/kick that just misses. Kennedy thinks about shooting again, but Lawler easily snuffs it out. The crowd wants some action, but little follows. Neither is willing to engage. Lawler tries a kick and Kennedy answers with his own. The offense has tapered off late in the fight. Both circle and look for an opening, but neither takes it. Kennedy finally closes the distance, wraps the hips, and gets the takedown. He drops some punches and elbows to the head and body as the fight comes to a close. MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Kennedy for the 30-27 sweep.
