MMA Fight Pit, an MMA event based in one of the sport's major power centers, is starting off with a bang when it holds its first event.

"Genesis," the promotion's first offering, takes place Aug. 13 at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M., and features a bevy of UFC and WEC vets including Houston Alexander (12-6) and Razak Al-Hassan (11-3), among others.

The promotion has also secured pay-per-view deals in the U.S. and Canada. Providers In-Demand, AVAIL-TVN, Dish Network, DirecTV, Bell Express VU, and Viewer's Choice Canada will broadcast the event, which will make it available in 90 million homes.

Also scheduled for the event are former UFC lightweight champ Jens Pulver (24-15-1), who meets WEC veteran Coty Wheeler (14-3); "The Ultimate Fighter 8" bad boy Junie Browning (4-4), who meets Lenny Lovato (8-1); and "The Ultimate Fighter 11" bad boy Jamie Yager (3-2), who fights Willie Parks (4-0).

Alexander has quietly amassed a three-fight win streak in regional competition that includes a second-round TKO of UFC and PRIDE vet Rameau Thierry Sokodjou.

In a previous interview with MMAjunkie.com, the father of six said he is turning a corner in his training and fighting. After a roller coaster stint in the UFC, which saw him rocket to stardom with knockout wins over Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara and plummet with losses to Thiago Silva and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson, Alexander said he's a different person from his octagon days.

"There will be days when I look at my old fights; I'm not even the same fighter I was when I was in the UFC," Alexander told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) earlier this year. "I'm a completely different fighter. I know I'm a lot better fighter than any of those losses I've had."

Al-Hassan, meanwhile, is attempting to get back on the winning track after a four-fight win streak in regional competition was snapped this past November.

The matchup, though, sets the stage for fireworks. Both Alexander and Al-Hassan love to stand and strike.

MMA Fight Pit executives believe a star-filled card is the way to stand out from the rest of the regional crowd.

"Having a larger venue allowed us to pursue national level talent, which gives local fighters an opportunity to escalate their careers and allows local fans to see a show unlike anything they've seen before," stated MMA Fight Pit co-founder Torry Crooks in a press release.

I'm pulling for Houston and Jens like I have before, but not going to be surprised to see 'Razor' go for the takedowns & get another RNC. Oh, and not going to believe a postfight retirement from good old Jens. Maybe if he still says it the next day or week I guess.

The only one I see getting back in is Yager. Houston is too old and one sided. He would have to go on a hell of a tear to make it back. Browning has a lot of talent but is battshit crazy so I doubt he will ever make it back. He blew his chance

I'm going to be honest, I have no idea Razak "Razor" Al-Hassan is. So I can't really say if Houston is going to beat him or not. I don't have to much faith in Houston. He surprised me when he beat Sokky. However, that fight was really a testament to how bad Sokky gas tank was then Houston being a superior fighter.

Houston Alexander radio interview about the fight:

Seven kids. Three jobs. 39 years of age.

If there's anyone you'd expect to drop dead from exhaustion, it would be Houston Alexander (12-6).

But the fighter said he still has the motivation to keep going and ultimately prove he belongs in the big show.

"I can do this Randy Couture long," Alexander, who on Saturday fights Razak Al-Hassan (11-3) at "MMA Fight Pit: Genesis," recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "Randy went almost until he was 50. I can go for as long as he's gone, if not longer because my body isn't worn out.

"I can go as long as I take care of my body and eat right."

Well, at least most of the time. During his interview, he noshed on some Panda Express. A few days out from his fight against Razak Al-Hassan, Alexander is trying to keep his energy up. In addition to his job as a fighter, he's a DJ at a local radio station and has recently taken to mentoring young fathers in his adopted hometown of Omaha, Neb.

It's a draining grind. Physically, there's no way Alexander can train as much as other athletes. With all the demands on his time, he has to make do with the schedule he keeps. Luckily, he has seven reasons to be on point.

"The desire is still there every single day, brother," he said. "When you have children, the desire is always there. I've always been self-motivated, anyway."

And he said that's actually a good thing when he has to bear down for a fight camp.

"I think the fact that I do other things and don't think about MMA all the time actually helps me out," he said. "Because people who focus on MMA too much, it kind of takes away from them. When I have to come back to MMA, it's strictly MMA. But the discipline is there for all aspects of the game."

Alexander has been defeated but once since his departure from the UFC in late 2009 and enjoys a three-fight win streak. So, for now, things are going pretty well, and they could get even better.

"To be real, I'm in a big show right now," he said. "This Saturday is as big as they come. But for me to be in another big show, which could possibly be in the UFC, hopefully I can get to that point where the wins speak for themselves."

Junie, Junie, Junie, hahaha. Here are the full results:

All 20 fighters competing in tonight's "MMA Fight Pit: Genesis" pay-per-view event have weighed in for the show.

Headliners Houston Alexander (205.5) and Razak Al-Hassan (204), as well as co-headliners Jens Pulver (136) and Coty "Ox" Wheeler (137), successfully made weight.

Main-card fighter Junie Browning didn't, though. And it wasn't even close.

Friday's weigh-ins took place at Library Bar & Grill in Albuquerque, N.M. Tonight's event takes place at The Pit at the University of New Mexico.

The upstart MMA Fight Pit promotion and the New Mexico Athletic Commission allowed each competitor an extra two pounds (rather than the traditional one) over the weight-class limit during weigh-ins. That did little to help Browning, though. The fighter, who flamed out of the UFC and now is stuck in a three-fight losing skid, weighed 162.25 pounds for his lightweight fight. Opponent Jacob Clark (158) didn't fare much better.

According to the organization, each fighter will be fined per pound they're overweight, though exact amounts weren't disclosed.

The full weigh-in results included:

Jens Pulver gets a win.

At 36 years of age, Jens Pulver made his first drop to bantamweight. The former UFC lightweight champion hasn't enjoyed much success these past few years, but last night, the former UFC lightweight champion had his hand raised once again. He knocked out WEC veteran, Coty Wheeler on the second round of the co-headlining bout of MMA Fight Pit: Genesis.

After losing 6 straight fights at one point, 'Lil Evil' is having a pretty decent year so far. He definitely isn't the same fighter he was during his prime, but this successful 135 lb. debut now puts him with 3 wins on his past 4 fights.

Check out footage of the fight below:

UFC veterans Junie Browning, Jamie Yager, Razak Al-Hassan, and Houston Alexander also competed on the MMA Fight Pit: Genesis card. Check out the fight videos after the jump.
There is alot of other interesting fights on this card. Click the link... Jamie Yager fight was awesome.
