Bas Ruttens Legacy vs Ken Shamrocks
Hey guys this is something i never understood. It seems as though everybody (including me) loves Bas. However people seem to call him one of the greatest of all time. On the flip side when the name ken shamrock comes up allot of people on the internet tend to say things like overrated and he never really was that good. Now when we rewind the clock Ken has beaten bas twice.
here are the two fights if you havent seen them.

So if ken is able to dominate Bas twice why is a prime ken shamrock not considered better than bas by many?

Ken Shamrock has the better legacy, but he's tarnishing it everytime he fights nowadays. He really should've retired after his third loss to Tito Ortiz.

I think people like to think of Bas as one of the best purely cause he was such a fun fighter to watch and an awesome personality. Sadly although he was indeed very good I don't think he should be mentioned among the likes of Randy/Hendo etc

Ken is a legend in his own right who was always a good submission wrestler. Bas though started as a great kickboxer and early in his career his grappling suffered, he worked hard on it and its evident that after the second Shamrock loss (2 years into his career) he didn't lose another fight despite competing for over a decade. Shamrock beat a green Bas when Ken was in his prime, Ken went on to decline into mediocre and worse. While Bas went on a run and did what few have been able to and leave at the right time.

Yeah, Ken is a good submission fighter but not too good at anything else. If the fight doesn't go to the ground then he is normally in trouble. Bas was smart in retiring when he did.

Yeah Ken desparately needs to retire. Even if he beats James Toney, just retire.

^ This. Bas Rutten came to MMA with basically no grappling knowledge at all, but finished his career with almost half of his wins being submissions (13 subs, 12 (T)KOs and only 3 decisions - which showed he is a true Mixed Martial Artist) and a 22 fights unbeaten streak (with one draw due to an injury). And of course due to his charismatic personality he did a lot for the public appearance of the sport.

The Bas Rutten that Ken Shamrock fought had little to no grappling training or experience. Bas learned BJJ and grappling after that second loss to Ken, and went on to become one of the best HW grapplers in MMA. Ken, on the other hand, only got worse from that point.
If a prime Ken would fight a prime Bas, he wouldn't stand a chance.

Yeah, the thing though is that Bas retired when he was still on top. Though I disagree that Ken completely got worse. He was a little on top of his game and then he went out.
