Another new MMA Company?

But in the jungle of mixed martial arts, Ultimate Fighting Championships has no equal.

A couple of North Texas men are out to change that.

Former stock and commodities trader and boxing manager C.J. Comu, and World Arena Rugby founder Buckeye Epstein, have booked a Friday night fight at the American Airlines Center with two former Ultimate Fighting contenders. They've also landed fighting announcer Bruce Buffer, who's known as the official voice of the UFC's octagon-shaped ring. They've even got Mark Cuban's interest in televising the fights on a pay-per-view basis.

Their company, Sun Production Group, hopes to hold eight events across the country and in England this year. It will issue stock to raise $5 million and promises to pair the toughest cage fighters in matches that will rival, if not beat, the UFC at their own game of promoting fights.

They've already raised $250,000 in sponsorships and have scheduled eight of the fights, kicking off the series with the March 9 event at American Airlines Center. They're planning an October event in Las Vegas and a November event in London.

Primary investors for the venture include the Mercury Orbit Fund, which also has invested in Fort Worth motorcycle manufacturer American Ironhorse.

Sun Production's members hope to cut into the estimated $1 billion mixed martial arts industry with their experience in boxing management, sporting events promotions and business finance.

Epstein, 47, of McKinney, and Comu, 46, of Addison, said Sun Production Group will exploit a weakness of Ultimate Fighting Championships, which limits its stable of fighters to those who sign to fight exclusively for the UFC.
