South African boxer Anele Makhwelo has died four days after he was rushed to the hospital midway through a title fight with a suspected clot in an artery in his brain.

TRAGIC SPORTS DEATHS
Sports has lost many athletes way too soon. We list a few.

Boxing South Africa's Dick Nkuna says Makhwelo died late Tuesday at the Universitas Hospital in the central city of Bloemfontein after he had slipped into a coma following two operations.

Nkuna says Makhwelo complained of pain in his left leg at the end of the ninth round of his national flyweight title fight against champion Doctor Ntsele on Friday. A ringside doctor examined him and ordered he be taken to the hospital immediately.

Nkuna said Wednesday ''there was nothing in the fight that suggested anything was wrong. Our condolences to the boy's family and to the entire boxing fraternity.''

I just made this reason to see what other people think.

Imagine if that article said "MMA Fighter dies after UFC Fight"

Do you guys think people would make a huge deal about it and use it to support their argument that MMA is too dangerous?? Or do you think no one would even mention it like the case here? Mind you this was a title fight.

There would be an absoulte shit storm of bad press and calls for it to be banned with an over emphasis on the words 'human cock fighting' being used.

Just look at all the negativity a month or so back when it was reported that two kids (8 year olds?) where fighting (with head gear and it was only a grappling match). Kids have amateur bouts all the time in boxing but nothing is said/no one cares.

There are many deaths in boxing every year that only recieve minor coverage but you can bet your ass as soon as there is a death (hopefully never) in one of the bigger evens in MMA we wont hear the end of it.

Yeah i remember that kid grappling match. That stuff was so ridiculous you cant help but put your palm to your face. One of my biggest pet peeves is this over sensitive society we have now a days. They can find a way to be upset about anything even though there is no reasonable or logical reason to be upset or outraged.
TBH iv seen and done crazier/violant stuff while i was in 3rd,4th grade then those kids did. Im sure crazier stuff happens every day. Why is it that a mild basically playing wrestling match get so much heat just because it is involved with MMA. There is just no logical thought that could justify that type of thinking.
