What does it take to win a Pride belt?

For everybody that says the UFC protects Tim Sylvia belt. What do they say about pride. This is Gomi second loss in a non title match. Granted that Diaz does not have the worlds best record but, if you fight the champ and win you should be the title holder. And what about Wandy lossing to Arona.

This crap is pretty lame.

There is a big difference here.

UFC dont have GP tournaments, and if champs were not to fight in gp to protect themselves, then yes, there would be no differences between protecting champs in the ufc and pride.

you can put the biggest champ ever with a b-level fighter or even worse, and there is still about a 10-15% chance the champ will loose, pride 33 being the perfect example.

Thats why a champ that is protected wont fight anything else than title fights, and will not fight more than twice a year or will fight people that fit their style.

Gomi has fought 5 times this year, one title defense. Have u ever seen a champ defend his title 2 months after having a fight before? Gomi fought at NYE, and he still gives a chance to a new fighter to make his mark against the champ. And you want Gomi to put his title at risk as well? Im not saying Gomi lost because he didnt train enough(well he says thats the reason), but if it wasnt for non-title fights, u wouldnt see that much of Gomi, just like u dont see much of Chuck, Sylvia...

If anything is wrong with non-title fights, its that it certainly doesnt protect the champs at all..making a champ fight so many times in a year just gives him more chances of loosing, its pure probabilities here.

Silva fights in the OWGP, ends up getting KTFO by cro cop, how is that protecting him? Hendo fighting against Silva, how is that protecting hendo?

Silva's loss to Arona was in a GP, and whoever won that fight was going to fight the winner of shogun/overeem... how could Arona be crowned title holder if he had to defend it right away after the same night?

The only one protected in Pride is Fedor, and im not even sure hes protected..im thinking more that hes having trouble finding opponents to make a fight exciting..

Tournaments fighters shouldnt lose their belts, but any fight outside of that should be for the title. If you dont want a guy like Diaz to take the belt from your champ, dont stick him in the ring with Diaz.

I agree

This is one of the few things I don't like about Pride.

Gomi vs. Diaz couldn't be a title match in the U.S. anyway. PRIDE's LW division is 160 lbs. In the U.S. the LW division is at 155. So by NSAC standards Gomi vs. Diaz was a catch-weight fight. I'm not saying that it would of been a non-title match if it had happened in Japan though.

About Wandy losing to Arona, that happend in semi-finals of the 2005 MWGP. Titles don't change hands in a GP tournament.

I do agree with you though that PRIDE does have too many non-title matches. You just chose 2 bad examples.

I am just saying it is hard enough to beat any of the Champs, and to give a champ 2 times to beat somebody is pretty easy. I dont think there are many people that could beat Gomi every time they fight. I mean Diaz almost dominated Gomi, but he was nearly KOed, and I am sure the next time they fight Gomi will come with a bigger and better game. Plus he has fought him before so it give him more of an advantage.

I do like the tournament aspect that Pride has I just dont think that you should have to beat a champ 2 times before you get his belt.

Also if you give somebody a bad rep make sure to have the balls to say who you are.
