Round 1 - Brunson with a weird right hand then then a leg kick. Brunson with a takedown now and he's in side control. James is able to regain full guard as Brunson works him over to the cage. James throws his legs up for a triangle but Brunson postures out of it and passes to side control. James scrambles to his feet. Brunson throws a knee and it's a low blow so there's a break. Brunson's punching is really, really technically unsound. And now he pushes out with his hand open and pokes James in the eye and we have another break in the action. Brunson with a takedown to end the round but James does get back to his feet. 10-9 Brunson.
Round 2 - Brunson with a takedown and he throws James' legs aside to take side control. James turns over trying to get to his feet but ends up giving up his back. Brunson tries for the rear naked choke and James gets out of it. James gets up, slammed back to the ground, up again and he tries to roll for a kneebar but Brunson defends and has the back again. To be honest, this is not a good fight. James gets up and manages to get free with a minute left. Takedown by Brunson again though. 10-9 Brunson.
Round 3 - Brunson is moving around and showboat I guess. This is really slow paced and Brunson is sort of slap fighting. James with a few jabs. Punch lands for Brunson and James falls to the ground. Rather than pounce, Brunson...dances. Now he's on James' back. James gets up but Brunson still has the bodylock and has James pushed against the cage. They're restarted with a minute left. A few high kicks from Brunson are blocked.. Brunson with a big takedown and that'll secure the round. 10-9 Brunson.
Official scorecards: 30-27 across the board for Derek Brunson.
