Marquardt's manager Lex McMahon has revealed that the former UFC fighters BAMMA career has ended before it even began. With his debut being pushed back from the BAMMA 8 card to BAMMA 9 only for the BAMMA 9 card to be delayed until March 24th from February 11th it has been decided that Nate will be exploring other options.
Speaking to Mmafighting.com's Ariel Helwani McMahon had this to say;
"Nate is disappointed that he has not been able to fight for BAMMA and the UK fans, however, given the situation that BAMMA removed him as the headliner from BAMMA 8 and have elected to reschedule BAMMA 9 to March 24, 2012 all parties concerned feel that it is in Nate's best interest to explore other options at this stage. Nate is one of the best fighters in the world and looks forward to fighting the best competition possible. Both Nate and I wish BAMMA all the best in their future endeavors."
BAMMA CEO David Green spoke in glowing terms about Nate and his team;
"I cannot speak highly enough of the professional manner in which Nate Marquardt and his team have conducted themselves. They have been an absolute pleasure to work with and we are just disappointed that we have not been able to work out a way to seeing Nate take his place on the BAMMA 9 card."
So where does this leave BAMMA? Without a headliner for their 9th card for one thing, Nate had been due to fight Yoshiyuki Yoshida on that card in what would have been his long awaited welterweight debut and his first fight since being released from the UFC under a cloud. Hopefully BAMMA can rebound from this and deliver a main event that will please the fans in March. Nate, now free to fight anywhere in the world will presumably not be short of suitors.
"I don't drink coffee, I take tea my dear, I like my toast done on one side"
This is not really going to help BAMMA, having probably the biggest non-UK signing leave the promotion before even competing. There had been talk of Marquardt vs Daley towards the end of 2010, but Daley allegedly said he had fought enough times already that year.
