Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2: Alexander vs Yvel

Quote:
Coming off a DQ (illegal strikes) loss to his 16 year old son (too soon?), it has been announced that notorious brawler Houston Alexander has already been booked for another fight, and will be taking on referee aficionado Gilbert Yvel under a regional Nebraska promotion named Resurrection Fighting Alliance on March 30th. The fight will be contested at 205 lbs.

Aside from that unsanctioned bout with his kin, Alexander also recently suffered a second round Falling Tree KO at the elbows of former hockey enforcer Steve Bosse, which snapped a four fight win streak that included wins over UFC veterans Razak Al-Hassan and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Alexander will be taking on fellow UFC washout Gilbert Yvel, who made the drop to light heavyweight in his last bout and scored a first round submission via strikes win over Damian Dantibo. The victory was his first since dropping three straight to Junior Dos Santos, Ben Rothwell, and John Madsen in his short lived UFC run. We managed to find a video of the fight and added it below. Warning: turn down your speakers.

In retrospect, those two videos were actually quite similar.

Perhaps we’re in the minority here, but we are really looking forward to this one, if only because it is the kind of fight that has a 90% chance of ending via uber violent KO. Who you got for this one?

Former UFC heavyweight champion Maurice Smith (12-13), at 50 years old, will fight again.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with sources close to the fighter that Smith will compete at March's aptly-named Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2 event.

Smith is expected to face Washington's Kyle "Kodiak" Keeney (12-7) at the event.

Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2 takes place March 30 at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Neb.

The headlining bout is expected to see Houston Alexander face Gilbert Yvel.

Smith, a kickboxing specialist, made his MMA debut in 1993 and fought his first six bouts under the Pancrase banner. He later made his way to the UFC, where a UFC 14 win over Mark Coleman saw him claim the promotion's heavyweight title. He then defended the belt against "Tank" Abbott at UFC 15 before surrendering the title to Randy Couture at UFC Japan.

Smith's final UFC appearance was at UFC 28 in November 2000. He's fought three times since, scoring a 2007 win over Marco Ruas and a 2008 victory over Rick Roufus before dropping a June 2008 bout to Hidehiko Yoshida.

Meanwhile, Keeney looks to snap a two-fight losing streak. Prior to the skid, Keeney had earned six wins in seven trips to the cage.

Kenney opened his career with a perfect 5-0 mark but then suffered through a four-fight losing streak against D.J. Linderman, Bristol Marunde, Lodune SIncaid and Mike Hayes.

The event is Resurrection Fighting Alliance's second-ever fight card. The first took place in December and featured MMA notables James Krause, Justin McCully, Jens Pulver and Gilbert Yvel, among others.

And so we have another regional show with old fighters happening. Big question though is why would someone fight their son? Houston Alexander you are an idiot!

Yvel at 205 is interesting to me, the guy is a dangerous striker and still holds the record for the nastiest GnP from the bottom I have ever seen.

I didn't know that he could even make that in a heathy way. But I stand corrected.

Interesting fight. Should be exciting. Alexander wins this imo.

If he is aggressive enough to win definately. Will he win though is another question. These are two guys who have had touch and go careers.

Really? Yvel is a legit bad ass striker and Alexander is a brawler. I think Yvel smashes Houston.

The thing is though that both of these fighters like I said have had touch and go careers. Houston was supposed to have a brawl with Kimbo and walked around. Yvel also is touch and go.
