I need help with this effect I'm trying to achieve. I pretty much have the entire signature done but I'd like to put a scripture/scroll on it with the scripture like text.

Something like this

I don't know how how to go about this I'm fairly inexperienced with photoshop

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking.

Do you want this exact scroll rendered so you can put it in your sig, or are you asking how do you get a blank scroll like this that you can use to type on top of?

If you just want the exact scroll cut out, then you just need to render it like any other photo. Below is the link to a guide of how to make a render.

If you want a scroll like this, but want it blank so you can type your own lines on it, you will either find a new image of a blank scroll, or try and play with tools such as the "Clone Stamp Tool".

Honestly if I used that pic I don't think it would look too good. I was thinking of making it from scratch but I wouldn't know where to begin.

Well, I can't really help you there.

There are brushes you can get that probably have that same style, scrolls and all.

Not sure of any, though.

Might want to google search, or, maybe you can google search for a tutorial on how to make such a thing.

I know I have made a sig before, but I have got another n00b question.

When I click on make selection on my render after using the pen tool to make it, and drag and drop it onto my sig, I only get the outline, and not the actual render. .

All help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You still have the outline layer selected when your copying, select the layer with the picture and make cure you copy and not copy merged.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. It won't let me actually crop out the picture...

It says, "Could not move the selection because the selected area is empty"

You need to choose the layer from which you want to crop out. You have chosen an empty layer.

Bingo look at your layers tab, you have layer 4 selected and its empty in this case you need to select layer 5 cause it contains the picture your trying to copy..
