grappling 101

So, I'm new to mma and I need to learn some grappling.

I can't really make it to an mma gym, so i'm learning everything from home.

what are the first grappling techniques i should learn, or what are the first things to grappling i should know/learn

Thanks!

www.gracieuniversity.com is the best source for learning BJJ over the web ;-)

Have you bought the chapters? If they really are effective, then Id be extremely willing to buy the chapters. :D

Gracie University is probable a good place to start. The resources seem very good. As far as actual basic techniques, the standard for the top and bottom game in jiu-jitsu is attacking in and with the closed guard.

The Armbar from the Closed Guard
The Triangle from the Closed Guard

Those are good easy places to start with the bottom game.

No I haven't, but I know several people who have. They are way more experience than I am and were very impressed by the whole thing.

Much better than you'd imagine it being possible over the internet.

In theory, you can go all the way to black belt online - yes, they will even grade you online - just tape yourself going through the techniques in the corriculum for each belt, and based on your performance you eiter pass or fail :)

It's quite briliant actually ;)

Pretty sure you can only get to blue. But if not I'd love to run into one of those black belts. There is no possible way you can become a good grappler with those, sure you might learn a few things, but I'm willing to bet I know white belts with one or two stripes that would walk through guys who got their blue from those dvds. They are better than nothing, but I would recommend trying to find a gym if at all possible.

Oh didn't know they stopped at blue, my bad ;) But since he can't get to a gym I still think it's the best way to go :)
