CLG has a little shameless behaviour in the past
New guy here with a few questions.

First off I would like to say great forum. What I was wondering is I am 33 and am thinking of training some BJJ. I am a huge MMA fan and my son just started wrestling this year for his school and kinda got me fired up to get off my arse and start training not interested in fighting or competitions just learning the art. I dont like to start something and not be competitive and I know I will have a hard time getting into the groove, but what I am wondering is how many classes a week would it take to make steady progress generaly speaking (I know it would depend on the person) I am thinking I could do 2 a week for sure maybe 3.

i belive the min. should be three. this gives your body time to heal, then class, then heal... not saying you are or not going to get busted up, but the soreness from working muscles you never knew you had.

I think it depends on what you do for a living(physical stress?) What other training you do like kickboxing, weight training or cardio training. It all depends on what works for you. It may take a month or so to iron out the details, just stay poitive

I'm going to agree with kishiro.

For the regular person looking to dive into martial arts, you probably want three classes. It will get you started in the learning process fairly quickly, but it will also give your body some time to unwind between classes.

Three classes also tends to be a good number to keep people from burning out right away. You don't want to go to five classes a week, then at the end of the week you are so sore and tired that you decide you don't want to do it anymore.

Best of luck to you.

If you dont do a lot of fitness, i would say try 2 to start and work up from that. The first few months of JJ i was aching as i was useing muscles i didnt work before, i would ache for 5 days at the start. Now im fine the next day, but it took a while for my body to adapt and im only 25

Yeah, I would have to agree with everyone with 2 to 3 classes being the ideal for a beginner. As you get more advanced you can then go more and get more aggressive with it doing cardio and technique and then you will develop a routing that fits your schedule and makes you happy.

Well, at first I would start out slow and then kick it up when you are used to the physical aspect of it. Of course though, training two times a week isnt going to really get you ready for an MMA fight.

I agree with vince. You should start out 2 times a week for 1 month and then go to 3 times a week.

Im a recent BJJ addict myself. My suggestion is the same as the previous two. Start out with 2 a week for a short period of time and then go to three a week. I find that three a week works well for me, and it about as much as I can fit in my schedule.
