Me (jiu jitsu) vs Friend

My friend always says he would destroy me in a fight or whatever, so the other day we "fought" or "sparred". Pretty much ufc rules except there were no strikes to the face, but we didn't wear any gloves.

Basically he beat up on me (throwing kicks and punches)while I tried for armbars(I probably threw 3 punches total the whole fight), but eventually I caught him in a triangle choke and he tapped right away.

It felt great to show him that I could take him out without even throwing punches. I have been training in jiu jitsu for only 2 months but its nice to know you can apply outside of the dojo successfully.

A few things I learned though.

Armbars are way harder to get when your opponent isn't wearing a gi and is all sweaty.

Getting punched on sucks.

You gas a lot faster when you are nervous and out of your element (as opposed to training).

Next time I will go for the triangle a lot sooner, and be more aggressive with takedowns.

Just thought I`d share

Good stuff...and yes armbars are hard enough to get in comps(wearing a gi)

But keep up the good work.

Yep, that's why the traditional methods of training are shitted on by some. Just shadowboxing and doing katas isn't gonna help you in real fights, where you're going to have to deal with pain, nervousness, and an adrenaline rush.

Once you get further into Jiu-Jitsu you will also learn to counter kicks and punches and use them to gain takedowns.

I love that! I once was asked by a fellow Tae Kwon do friend why I would leave traing in TKD to focus on BJJ! It's been obvious for years!

Keep it up, sounds like you are having fun applying what you've learned so far!
