You must be crazy, rubber guard is one of the best ways to keep you're opponent not gnping you. Especially when you have control of his arms. You can do so many things like gogoplata, umoplata triangle, arm bar....Won't work in MMA untill someone trains figure out a way to not get hit easily while using it. I know a guy in my gym practices this alot in straight Jiu-Jitsu. It is very effective. But this guy is like Gumby. We have to make up techniques to tap him that would tear anyone elses arm off. So he is very good at utilizing this and getting submissions from this.
I tried it once and hurt myself because I was basically crushing my leg around his body.
ozz525 said:I don't use it I could if I felt like it. I am 14 and trying to center my game around sweeps and staying on top. I don't use the rubber guard if I do try I only throw up Omplata's
Edit: Reading books does not really help anything. Rubber Guard is only for lanky bastards, no one in there right minds would use it in MMA
Maybe it is I think I am just bitter that my legs are tooo short to use rubber guardBJJ Boy said:Listen to me, reading books and watching videos are good cause you learn new moves then you try it in class. Then it improves you're game.
Thats great that you're focusing you're game on staying on top and sweeps, but what if he goes in you're guard and hes to hard to sweep? Like most mma fighter are..
What do you do when you fight bigger guys then?ozz525 said:Maybe it is I think I am just bitter that my legs are tooo short to use rubber guard
***** I am not tryin to be a MMA fighter yet lol
I want to use more sweeps because I am sick of laying in guard tryin to throw up subs on bigger guys.
I am the smallest guy in the adults class when we do no gi. I do way better in Gi cause I can control them better. Anyways it will only make me better fighting bigger guysBJJ Boy said:What do you do when you fight bigger guys then?
I prefer to jump in guard when im fighting a bigger guy, cause they always wind up taking top if i don't, then from guard i can use my sweeps and subs.

And yes, Leben was ATTEMPTING to use the rubber guard vs Starnes, wasn't too successful though. The idea is to keep your opponent close, control his arms, and be in position for armbar/omaplata/triangle easier.

thank you someone sees the point of my post other than the stupid keyboard black belts on here. books and videos are a great tool for learning new moves. if you don't beleive me go **** off. i never said it was a good thing for mma did i? no i didn;t so stop with that shit with the quickness. i think it's a bad idea for mma unless you are really good at it. bjj matches it's awesome for. if you use it in an mma match unless your opponent is tired as hell your just gonna get your face punched in. but that brings me back to my previous statement that i never said it was for mma. so to all the keyboard black belts stay on the TUF threads and dont get yourself hurt trying to jerk off to rampage since he beat liddell.BJJ Boy said:Listen to me, reading books and watching videos are good cause you learn new moves then you try it in class. My favorite thing about your post is how you know what you're talking about.
