I'm just curious to what you should do when your opponent has u in the sprawl? Also, some tips to avoiding it, getting out of it, and tecniques to getting an opponent on the ground with a good sprawl would be appreciated
if i get caught in a sprawl and it is weak, i go for a single pull his leg in grab his ankle pulling it under him and push his knee..
if it a strong sprawl i get caught in, i break his grip if they are clasped, then i control one hand, the hand i am controling i drive my head in that direction, i sit out on the side i am forcing all the action coming up under his arm pit.
if a catch them in a sprawl i either carry it further dragging them down, sometimes i get a high collar grip and punch the ground as i sprawl..
if i catch them in most cases i pressure them on thier back with my chest and spin, while i try to sink a hook to take the back. basiclly as long as i am behind them i feel comfortable.
i go for throw too tawara gaeshi, maybe a sumi gaeshi.
I would go for a single or, if they're leaning to one particular side I would try to come out the other side and go for the back.
I've seen guys who are just really desperate together their opponent to the ground turtle, make sure their head is clear of their opponents chest and then pull guard. If you're comfortable with an opponent on top of you, that's a good way to set it up.
As for not getting caught in the sprawl, work alot on your shooting speed and use leg kicks and the straight stomp kick to set it up. Once you break down your opponents legs a little bit it becomes much harder for them to sprawl effectively.
I also suggest, if you manage to pull up the single from the sprawl, learn some leg-locks so that you can throw one at your opponent while he is still concerned about your takedown.
