Most people charge with their upper body leading them. Kicking someone in the groin while they are chargine at you is really not that easy, partly because the testicles are a small target in between legs that are moving quickly straight towards you, but mostly because it's really hard to land a low straight kick on a guy who's main goal is to put his chest through you. Once he closes the distance to a point where hitting him would be "easy" you're not going to have much time to get that kick off.

If you go down on concrete, you're not going to have a good day. I'm a f*cking grappler, and even I wouldn't really want to be on my back on a sidewalk. You get hit once on the bottom and your head goes bouncing on the cement and you are in serious trouble. If you want to roll back to pull guard and go straight for an armbar, go ahead, but if you screw it up, the stakes are too high for you to be happy with losing.

If you don't think a one-two works in self defense, think about what the one-two is actually supposed to do, even in sport-fighting. The whole point of a short quick combination is to create that stun that comes after eating a right hand, once you do that, you can throw some more punches against an opponent who's already had to deal with getting slugged in the nose.

Personally, if I'm ever in this situation, I'll stick with the tried and true knee to the face. It's effective and it's flashy. That doesn't mean, though, that I would discourage punching. If that's what you're comfortable with, do it.

When you are on the street, it's all about going where you feel in control. If my BJJ instructor was there, I wouldn't be shocked or pissed if he pulled guard, because he's a 3rd degree blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, so that's where he's comfortable. If I were in a fight, though, I wouldn't feel comfortable with my back on the concrete, even though I like that position on the canvas. Personally, I'd be about the repeated strikes to the head.

That, though, is just me.

another move some one told me about is stepping to the side out of the way at the last second and hammerfist to the head,or hook to the face,also front sweeping thier legs as well.

If he's running right at you a kick to the balls is np.

Most legs are longer than upper bodies so you can reach it.

If you go down, you have time to run away if you kicked him hard enough.

If you get kicked good in the balls then they won't be stomping you in the face for a while.

When I said you had to be large to do a one-two I meant that you have to have alot of power behind a one-two for it to be a succesful self-defense move.

Self-defense should be simple and easy to do effectively.

Hitting someone in the nuts who is running straight at you isn't that hard.

You overestimate the kick to the groin (the opposite of what Rutten said "everyone underestimates the kick to the groin")
Besides, think about it: even if you do somehow reach the groin of the person charging at you, the most you would do is tap it. It'll hurt him, but definitely won't paralyze him. There's no way you can get a full-power swing at the groin of someone who's charging you.

My best defense is the .40cal glock im licensed to carry about.

but assuming i left it at home, I might attempt a very quick kick to the groin. Or depending on how his hands are I might try to catch him if I think im stronger or try and land a punch, if he tries to take me down i might throw some knees. If he gets me down on the ground i'd find his eyes, throat or groin with a grip like a fat boy grabbing for candy.


Granted with someone charging if you felt confident in your Judo (which im not) there is a great throw using their momentum. Grab their wrists fall back as ur falling to the ground put one foot on their hip and throw that punk bitch like a mile.

I'd still spawl if it was a street situation. Assuming the person who charged you has no extensive BJJ experience it's pretty much over as you should have their back. It's also very easy to fall back into a guillotine. If you're worried about other people then I would still sprawl, and then push him away and run in the opposite direction.
