there is not really excessive turtling in judo, due to the fact you only have 5 seconds or so to make something happen, then it is back to the feet.

if you learn about the turtle, you will have a better chance of beating the turtle, by learning the weeakness of it. i love the turtle!!

Hmm. I've only done a few Randori matches, where competition rules were in place. I didn't even encounter the turtle in those instances. =[

However when we practice ne waza without many rules (except for illegal techniques and such) some people I practice with just turtle up whenever they are at a disadvantage. I find it really hard to get people out of that. I usually sink in the hooks and roll them over, but even that can be hard sometimes.

I annoys me a lot though, since I tend to view things from a realistic or MMA context, and figure that I'd be kneeing the crap out of someone if they did that to me outside of grappling...

Do you have any tips of beating the turtle? Aside from sinking in hooks, I only have one other method, which I haven't even tried out yet on a live opponent. I offer a leg, reach under and grab the opposite lapel, dive over and roll, whilst trapping their arm between my leg. Wow, I fail at describing it... But yeah...

Highly opinionated but out of touch with the current MMA scene.

OOOOOOOOOOOOH.

But, seriously, how is fetal position any worse than guard? Is Grappling itself gay? (btw folks, the correct answer is 'yes, yes it is.')

spin into a position where my hips are behind thiers with my chest on the small of thier back for control, at this point i grab the back of thier belt & the back of thier lapel, i pop up placing lapel grip side knee at the base of thier spine, and throw myself back. this motion pulls them into me and rolls them backward, i now have thier back with hooks in.

spin into a position where my hips are behind thiers with my chest on the small of thier back for control, i get both hands and grip thier belt, i stand up and up them up fast and hard, this motion opens up there elbows from knees, at the peak of my jerking them up, i jump my hooks in, i now have the position with hooks in and they are on thier stomach.

on the two above i go for chokes lapel, i may use my knuckles to trace the jaw line to help me get under the chin, i may work a rnc, i may step over the top of his head for an arm bar.

if north south, one knee up one down, belt grip and pull them into the thigh of your down leg, this motion opens up his knee to elbow action and you sept over this your plated leg, slipping under his chest and foward rolling into that side. catch the croock of your bent side leg withthe top of your foot on the step over leg, this sets you up for the reverse triangle.

thread you hand under thier arm pit to grab a lapel(do not let them trap your hand or they will roll you), pull slack from lapel, with free hand reach under his chin to grab higher on lapel, after new grip release with old grip and shoot down between his legs turning your chest upward(maintain hip to body contact), slide you wieght on top his shoulders stepping foward into a clock choke.

a few to get you started

I hate when people turtle and they weigh heaps more then me so it's harder to fight them when they do it but they can't really attack you though.

Kosei Inoue and Morgan Eddicot-Davies would have to be my favorites at the moment.

I like a lot more older Judoka like Kimura, Mifune, Maeda, Mitsuda and Geesink etc.

That is pretty cool, Is he a pro fighter?

Karo is a great Judoka but the UFC say it is a lot better then it reallyt is and people beleive it...When people were talking about Parisyan Vs Lombard they said Parisyan was going to have a Judo clinic on Lombard but Lombard's Judo is a lot better then Karo's but that is an impressive Judp victory.

Lombard's MMA Judo throws are great...They are usually better then Karo's IMO but some of Karo's have been beutiful(Like the Harai Goshi against Burkman).
