Improving technique at home

I'm new to the whole MMA Scene, and I plan on going to a Gracie BJJ gym next year (I'd like to get better cardio to kind of damper my asthma) but I love BJJ and watching the videos just isnt enough I want to learn good technique so when I start I'm comfortable and also to mess up my friends when we have our no-homo wrestling matches.

P.S. I'm new so hello to all

a marathon runner will only have 30 seconds of wind if he grapples. the only way to build proper cardio is mat time. one of the best thing to build is grip strength, this is very very very important part of any winning grappling game.

I agree with Kishiro, to some extent. The only way to really be ready to grapple is to grapple. Once you hit the mat, it doesn't matter how long a distance you can run, because you're muscles are going to get filled with lactic acid and the pressure on your chest is going to take the wind out of you.

There are a few drills that will simulate that kind of pressure. Ball smash drills have been known to do that.

As far as learning technique, you can watch videos all day long, and that works for some people. It worked for Evan Tanner. The real issue is that if you don't have someone to correct your technique, you could be making mistakes you don't even know about.

If you want to use a web site, Jean-Jacques Machado's interactive site is supposed to be good from what I've heard. The man himself is a legend in the sport and as a coach, so getting to work with the quality of instruction on there is definitely good, plus it will give you the opportunity to learn from guys all over the country.

If you have videos and need help on technique, we're always open to helping you out with techniques and new moves.
