k, i'm not that good in takedowns,so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Usually from what i understand if they are doing a double leg or single leg takedowns they have to clear your defenses first(which is your head, hands, fore arm and hips)they clear this one by changing levels(they have to be lower than you when they shoot) and by pushing or shoving up your defenses.

so my advice is , when they change level,..you change level with them and go for underhooks.

Example of getting the underhook while they are about to do a double or single would be , you changing level with your opponent:

a)your left hand/forearm would be shoving or pushing his head/shoulder(if they pass this defense) and
b)your right elbow is tuck to your body , your right arm is on the outside of your right thigh(so when they shoot for a double or single you already got the underhook)
c)feet are slightly apart(kinda like squatting but your left leg is in the back , and your right knee is pointing at your opponent)

if you still did not get the underhook and they pass all your defenses, you still have the good old sprawl:cool:

the best and most evective takedown defence I have ever used is acalled the crucifix take down. It is simple when a guy shoots in on you you do the oposite of a spraw. you get a dubble underhook and roll babackwords there is somuch force moving in that direction that when your back hits the floor you will keep rolling untill his back hits the ground and you are on top.

thanks guys but i already go for the underhooks, and i will have to try that rolling technique. anyone knows any good training excersizes other than sprawls?

One thing to keep in mind with sprawls is that you can combine the sprawl with a spin. In which case, you aren't always sprawling to the back but to your opponents side. This is extremely useful for those that continue to drive through their takedowns as you won't always have to meet their force full on. By allowing it to continue past you, you are now in a better position to attack.

Also, if you are in a situation where the space is enclosed and their is an obstruction behind you (like a cage fence, training room wall, or car for example), you will be able to redirect your opponent into that obstruction and still allow yourself space to move and escape. So drill the straight sprawl, and also drill sprawling out to your left and to your right.

yeah i do that too, though i ttrain on my own, and i do the spin thing

Here is the technique I use daily;

I shoot first. .

I don't give my opponent time to be the aggressor. Different styles for different people, though. If you can't get the sprawl down, make sure your opponent doesn't get you in that situation.

ok anyone else? oh and it is pointless t5o follow them down as then they could easily go after me and i would lose my balance. i would have to jump and sprawl at the same time, and i am slow. come on people wrestling season is starting on december 1at or around there

SlammedSL1 11-06-2006 09:33 PM

How about you push of there head and jump over there back?

lol j/k

I always hoped someone would do that, kinda like the TKD guy in that MMA vid where he gets OWNED! hahaha

spyder06260 11-07-2006 04:14 PM

well maybe at practice... lol i would need someone to pay my medical bill because my neck would be broken
