Ghetto Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Does anyone have the same problem by not having a Jiu Jitsu school anywhere even close to being near-by? (I live in a small city in Illinois.) If so then do you have to practically learn submissions online and study them and wrestle your friends and turn it into a sparring session?

If you are one of those people, you are not alone.

I have friends who do this, and the fact is, you're going to develop alot of bad habits, because no one is going to be there to correct them. Join up with some online instruction like the Machado project.

I do this. I was taught basics by my bro in law (BB under carlson) and have developed my game by watching anything i can get my hands onm and going to gyms and picking up tips from other BJJ guys

If you really want to get into jitsu and mma you are going to end up traveling for seminars, conventions and comps anyway. You should extend your search to 45min-hour travel. You can carpool with your rolling buddies. Most gyms I have experienced will work with you on your availability/contract if you have to travel. They may even let you pay a mat fee each time you come.

Hands on training seams irreplaceable to me, but Machado is deadly and I'm unfamiliar with his online program.
