Infections picked up when grappling on mats

Hey was wanting to share problem and see if anyone else has suffered it or has tips for preventing.

Train at a full time BJJ school 4 days a week. It is my suspicion that the mats are not been cleaned properly as some of the guys are showing yellow looking spots on areas that have most contact with the mat i.e. Knees and elbows.

These can be quite painful but generally go down in a couple of days. However i have been unfortunate and the one a picked up on my knee has traveled down and resulted in an infection in the joint itself. Really badly swollen and painful to the degree that its near impossible to walk. Had to have draining procedures and painkiller injections driectly into the joint, needless to say training is off the cards for several weeks perhaps months.

Was wondering if anyone had suffered a simillar injury when grappling and if anyon had any suggestions for preventing future occurences short of showing up a half hour early and cleain the place myself?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

They don't really clean the mats where I roll unless there's loads of sweat or blood on them, but I've never got anything. You must roll with some undesirable mother****as.

I always assumed in any sport cleaing of equipment was something everyone done, not a case of who you roll with. You can pick up horrible shit if someone doesnt wipe the bench down or the bike in gym etc etc.

Bodily fluid (within reason) plus no cleaning generally equals bad ****in times regardless of the people involved.

Not sure what the hell yellow spots are but does not sound good. I've only experienced ring worm. Sounds like your school needs to get on the ball about cleaning the mats and keeping infected guys from training till they are healed up.

I've gotten those at wrestling camps before when we were on the mats for like 10-12 hours a day for a week, so the mats were horrible even after getting a thorough scrubbing. They went away after like a week at home. Mine didn't bother me at all, except, that my skin was abnormally colored.

I heartily accept the motto, "That government is best which governs least"; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically.

usually when i get home from mma practice, if i did any grappling that day, i take a long thourough shower with bodywash and soap.

When i used to wrestle i caught ringworm like 10x, empatego, and staph.

It's not fun, and if you think you have it go to the doctor as soon as possible and get some antibiodics before it spreads

Don't these places have spray bottles of germicidal stuff all around?

When I used to belong to the local Y I knew they never cleaned the mats and I would clean it periodically with the stuff you were supposed to use to wipe down machines. The gym where I belong now is much smaller and everybody can see you (or a camera if there's nobody there) if you don't wipe it down and everyone will know who the groder is.
