Bjj

I love Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and it's submissions are definitely one of the largest parts of MMA today. I was just wondering if people had ?s or weblinks about BJJ that they want to throw out there.

I don't but I do have a question. I know in most tradational arts you earn belts by being able to correctly perform certian Kata and show proficinecy with different skills, how do they test for belts in BJJ?

It's all aptitude for performing techniques and guard passing and other essential skills. It probably varies from place to place, but I have always seen rank given after demonstrations of how to execute technique.

so if one has a sufficent skill in grappling could they say go to a BJJ school and challenge for rank to see where they fit or something along those lines?

excellent so the first belt you earn is a blue belt if I am reading this correctly. now someone like me I do have a decent amount grappling training though no offical belts in grappling, would they test me to see what I know or just make me start fresh?

Teachers don't tend to just give belts to students, regardless of how good they are at grappling. Teachers try to make sure that the student has BJJ training and is familiar with the quirks of BJJ, not just with freestyle submission fighting based on BJJ.

BJJ teachers are just like any other kind of martial arts teacher, they think that there way is better than all other ways and, though other styles can be useful, there's is the best. They usually don't take kindly to freestyle grapplers, but it probably depends on the teacher.
