Yes, it is. If your opponent can hold you down on your back it's a pin and he wins.

yeah and even without pinning you can get up to 3 back points and its very exhausting to have to fight off your back in wrestling. I never had a problem with wanting to pull guard or anything in wrestling but a couple of times when on my back i used a butterfly hook to get back to my stomach.
