So I have finally decided to start competing in no gi tourneys in my area. I've been trainin and rolling both gi and no gi for a little over 2.5 years.

I was kind of wondering if any of you that have competed before have any tips for a newbie.

Have fun. Tournaments are a good time. Make sure you stay hydrated and eat to keep your energy levels up for competition. Make sure you get some good rest the night before. Warm up, don't go into your matches cold. Make sure you don't forget your groin protector and mouthpiece!

Just have fun man. I have done a few competitions and when I first started I was all tense and kept telling myself "I can't lose, I can't lose". Then when I was competing I would continue to second guess all my moves. Eventually I started just relaxing right before I was up... stretching alone and trying to keep my head clear and telliing myself I am just out there to have a good time. I always felt like I did much better after I stopped stressing over the idea of losing.

So just have a good time. They are always a lot of fun.
