I agree with that. You really do need to know the history of your style, otherwise you can't be sure of the accuracy and quality of your instructor.

Yeah, Andre's a fantastic boxer. He's helped me alot with my hands and my head movement, and he's a great guy.

Not unnecessarily, which is what I was saying. Where I live, there are quite a few dogie BJJ schools, the instructor of one claims to have received his black belt from a guy who got his from another guy who got his from some random guy who claimed to know BJJ - by tracing that alone you would get a good idea as to how reliable an instructor he is.

yeah i guess you have a point. i have had a few run ins with those types, more in mma than jitz though.
black belt degrees shouldnt be judged by the level of mullet/pony tail, or the kind of hat you wear weather it be the crocodile dundee or the cowboy.

Point of that story is that belt ranks can be deceiving. You have to look at the credibility of the belt rank as well.

Agreed.
Its like this a belt around your waist means nothing.. It is a symbol to show what you have accomplished, similar to a police badge. Anyone can buy a police badge and put it on, but that dosent make you a police officer or w.e rank in w.e department, the knowledge, skills and abilities you now have because of what you went through to get that badge is.
