Generally, I prefer substance over sizzle, but setting that aside, inverted triangles are really cool. Kneebars are a personal favorite to watch. And anything that starts with "flying."
Yeah i agree with anything Flying = Flashy, i love the Flying Arm Bar! Its the first sub my friend caught me on when i told him i knew wrestling so i was going to smash him, and he knew Bjj.
Ha ha, got to love the BJJ, had a similar experience playfighting with a mate who told me he did it, being young I was like yeh bjj what a load of crap, he nearly put me to sleep from his back and I was like what the F*** is this, and i've been hooked ever since, I now see gogo platas in my sleep, lol.
I don't find the d'arce or the omo plata flashy personally. Those are two subs I catch on people constantly. I catch the brabo choke more than the d'arce though...kind of the same concept.
I always had the opinion that flashy doesn't really get the job done. It's just good ole fashioned technique. I rolled with a Bravo purple belt and all that flashy stuff didn't work when I just stuck to simple technique.
My sentiments exactly. Too many people start out worrying about "how do I do flying armbars or triangles", "how do I do the pentagram choke", etc...
Like Jean Jacques Machado told us..."youtube is one of the worst things to ever happen to BJJ".
Flashy moves are great and all when they work, but the fact of the matter is most of the time the flashy stuff just doesn't work live rolling. Every black belt I have ever rolled with taps me with simple stuff like armbars or cross collar chokes. They don't worry about all the flashy moves, they just get super good at the basics of jiu-jitsu.
Flashy submission? Flying GogoPlata is the flashiest. Needless to say, it's probably impossible to do in an MMA match. As far as using any flashy submission, flying armbar, rolling kneebar, scissor heel hook, you will be lucky to be successful 10 percent of the time with any flashy submission. I'd say it's better to be technically good than flashy anyday.
Eddie Bravo's "Twister", is cool, flying armbar, that reverse triangle choke well the guy's upside down in WEC I think? anyway, was amazing, also like the anaconda choke, flying scissor sweep, rolling kneebar and kimura I love too.
I learned what Matt Arroyo calls an "Invisable armbar from side control" which is pretty sick, I can't wait to try it out tonight at the gym see if anyone catches on to it.
I also prefer submissions than moves (except fast kicks like roundhouse, reverse roundhouse etc.) I like quick submissions like armbar, sleeper hold, dragon sleeper, air choke and blood choke. I fell that leg locks are pretty useless untill ur opponent is beaten very hard (exception is sharpshooter). Neck cranks and leg chokes are also very fast and effective. So, I go for chokes.:thumb02:
