personal grappeling delimia

I have been training mma for some time, 6 months at my old school two days a week, and now I'm a new school and i have greatly improved.I've been going there for a few months and now have made up my mind i want to go to comps; in no gi grappeling.
How ever i still live at home, and my parents do not want me to do this. What are some arguments or ways i could make them feel better about about me competing?
Also i would be paying to go to the comps on my own.

Well arguments, you are payin for them, you have been training in it, its not like they are free for all brawls. they are very supervised and have plenty of rules and safety is usually not an issue.

Besides healthy competition is good for athletes.

Well don't actually turn it into an argument or they will never agree with it. Tell them that this is you passion and it is something that you really want to do. It isn't striking, it is just grappling. It is 100% sanctioned and supervised by professionals. It is just another sport and you really enjoy yourself while you are doing it.

problem, with telling them my passion is grappeling is its not a completely true.I do like grappling a little bit more then striking, but that is more so because striking you can only do so many times a week going hard. With grappeling you can go like every day as long a some weird freak accident doesn't happen. And if it does, it normal involves throws, and most competition state clearly that the opponent has to be taken to the mat safely I guess printing out the rules and explain that it is a pretty safe sport couldn't hurt.
Thanks for all your comments

OR you can just hide it from them, thats what one of the guys from my gym has been doing...

up until his first fight 2 weeks ago, he came out and told them...and by the way they reacted you would've thought he came out of the closet or something, they basically disowned him, he was homeless the last 2 weeks before moving back to school...

in other words... Don't Tell them, and Don't Tell Them...unless you want to move out already.

You just have to make a case for it. Really let them know that this is something you want to do.

Add that you really want their support and that this is one of your goals you have been working really hard towards.

Good Luck
