Can Brown belts be BJJ instructors?

Hello there

Im thinking about taking BJJ in a gym near my house.
I went to their site and noticed that the instructor "only" has a brown belt.
What do you think of that?

In Finland there are total of eight black belts. So in here a brown belt instructor is considered as good. And usually the techique programs are the same so you will learn as much with a brown belt.

P.S I know some schools with blue belt instructors.

Depends who they got their belt from i mean anyone can order a blackbelt off the internet if they wanted to. My instructor received his brown belt from Royce Gracie, i'd rather learn from a purple belt who i know earned the belt than some one with a black belt and have no idea where it came from.

I keep it real

The guy that im talking about received the belt form Royce Gracie. As mentioned above there is a blue belt instructor in one other of royce´s gims, but luckly the one near my house is the brown one.

Thank´s for your opinions guys!

Rich Franklin learned BJJ from a blue belt........so a brown belt isn't a problem, especially if you aren't near a larger city with a BJJ community. Also getting a brown belt from Royce Gracie is harder than getting a black belt from some of these gyms.

Think. It Ain't Illegal Yet

Great description, you know any guy blue or above who has been taught by someone with the surname "Gracie", especially Royce, is going to be worth his weight in gold
in terms of teaching BJJ, compared with 80% of people out there, who have a black belt, under a lot lesser skilled instructors.
Remember,it's not what you got it's how you use it,lol

It doesnt really matter what color there belt is as long as they have some good knowledge and technique bombs to drop (thats like a douchebag/grasshopper sensai type of thing to say). There are people with good credentials that cant teach you jack and there are people that no one has ever heard of that can teach you a lot.

I really hope you're kidding.......

In case you aren't. I have a brown belt in BJJ, a blue belt in Judo and I've worked with a lot of the 10th planet stuff and I don't feel I know enough about ground fighting to truly develop my own system.

But you have a purple belt in BJJ and have seen some youtube videos and you want to start you're own JJ......I guess more power to you but I really hope you're kidding.
