How good is it for ground work? What does it have or not have that things like bjj, wrestling or submission grappling have? Like pro-con.

Something I heard from someone I trust who dabbled in Pankration for a time; He said that in a lot of Pankration competitions, there were large numbers of knockout finishes despite the fact that strikes in Pankration are supposed to be used to wear down the opponent in order to submit them. Though there was nothing in the competition rules against finishing the fight by strikes, the issue was that it was supposed to be more about grappling but ended up looking a lot like poor kickboxing.

Of course, that's just competition, and that's just one opinion on competition no less. I've seen footage of some Pankration comp' that was really crisp and looked like some solid submission work. From what I've seen, its groundwork isn't as extensive as BJJ or something like that, but it appears to have some of the same basic principles.

Hopefully someone can come along and give you some more solid information. Hope I helped a lil' bit though.

Pankration is the ancient Hellenic sport of free fighting, which was the most popular of the ancient Olympic games. The word ‘Pankration’ comes from the Greek words, Pan (all) and Kration (powers), or ‘All Powers Combat’. There were only two rules; no biting or eye gouging and victory came by knockout or submission. The Christians later abolished Pankration leaving behind only two elements of the contest, wrestling and boxing.

Today, the sport of modern Pankration has been revitalized and is practiced in various forms by different organizations around the world. A relatively new form of Pankration exists today, widely referred to as Ultimate Fighting. Modern Pankration, also known as Shootfighting, Vale Tudo, No-Holds Barred or Mixed Martial Arts challenges combatants in a contest of striking skills and submission grappling techniques. The combination of multiple disciplines and athletic ability determine the winner in Pankration fighting. It is both a departure from traditional martial arts and a return to the origin of contests of hand-to-hand combat.

Pankration techniques are based on reality, while more traditional martial arts are based on theory.

Hope this answers your question..

Pankration, MMA, Vale Tudo, No Holds Barred, etc.. are all basically the same thing. Anything goes with a few rules established beforehand.

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for but think of ground work like this.. A triangle choke will have the same basic elements regardless if it comes from BJJ, Judo, Catch, Pankration, whatever.. How you get there and some of the quirks might differ a little.

Hope this helps..
