Deep Triangle Choke Escape! A Last Ditch Effort...

Without a doubt, Fedor could have avoided getting caught in the triangle by being a little bit careful with his ground and pound but I think it's a good time to share a technique that I like to use when I screw up and find myself caught in the fully sunk triangle choke.

A last chance that sometimes can help you avoid tapping out three seconds later.

This is why I love having a BJJ blackbelt on the board, so that I can see cool techniques and escapes.

That said, this is not one I particularly like. It's very low percentage, especially against guys who are good at attacking the triangle because as soon as you stand up, most of those guys are going to contract their abs and their lower back to put pressure on the back of the neck to keep you from getting the poster up (and using the grip on the shin to control the posture more) and hook the leg above the thigh.

If you're really, really quick with this move, you might get out one time out of ten, but against someone who's good at control the posture from the triangle (even at the blue or purple belt level, you're still in deep, deep trouble from that position). I'm not saying you should give up, and this is definitely a legit defense to try, just that you should be aware when training this technique that if you have to do this (as Jeff alluded to) you've already screwed up pretty badly.
