Arlovski could sign with Affliction on May 19th!

May 19 is the day when Andrei Arlovski could sign with Affliction, SI.com has learned. That is, assuming the UFC declines to match what is believed to be a deal that pays the former UFC champion in the low-to-mid six figures for the first of three non-exclusive bouts.
A representative from Arlovski’s camp explained there was “nothing to report,” though continued on to say negotiations with the UFC were ongoing.
Should Arlovski and Affliction complete their deal, the Belarusian is expected to appear at next Tuesday’s press conference at the in Century City, Calif., to announce a fight against former International Fight League heavyweight champion Ben Rothwell.
Now we know why Dana White sounded glum about the whole Arlovski deal. I doubt that he can compete with what Affliction’s offering him if this is all true. Non-exclusive bouts are the key here. Dana wants Arlovski in the UFC and the UFC only. Affliction is giving him the opportunity to fight three fights wherever he feels the best situation for him is.
In other Affliction-related news, Gross also hints that the involvement of George Greenberg, a Fox Sports executive, could mean that the Affliction undercard might be shown on television:
Greenberg’s presence at the press conference suggests there is something to rumors that the undercard of the July 19 Affliction event would be broadcast live on FSN. Asked to confirm why Greenberg was attending the announcement, Affliction declined to comment

I think the UFC has to match this offer, because they need Arlovski bead in my opinion, but if he does sign with Affliction who do you think has the better HW division UFC or Affliction? I still think the UFC does.

How does Aggression make money on that if he doesn't actually fight on an Aggression event? I mean technically he could sign with Aggression and then fight his next 3 fights with the UFC since the contract is non exclusive?
UFC could easily match the money but not the non-exclusive part of the contract. BTW, was Arlovski's last UFC fight shown on PPV? I think it was a pay extra to watch it on ufc.com thing. If you don't even air a guy's fight on the PPV, I wonder how much they really want him.

That seems to be a misinterpretation on the part of the article's author. '3 non-exclusive bouts' would normally mean that Arlovski commits to 3 fights with Affliction, but during the span of the first and last fight, he's still free to negotiate fights with other promotions.

Or, they're just trying to make it appear that they're not interested in order to lower his asking price. Also, for all we know, Arlovski got a cut of the UFC On Demand buys.

I dont see how Arlovski could stay with the UFC now that Nog/Mir are confirmed as coaches and fighting for the title. That means Arlovski would have to wait until like March or April of '09 to get a title shot which he deserves now if he stays. I say he leaves which is ok with me.

Oh most definitely.
I've posted this matchup in another thread and if this fight ever happens, Aleksander will KO Andrei with a smile.

Come on, don't be so harsh, I think it can be a competitive fight, hopefully now that he has left Dana's claws AA will get his head straight and start kicking major ass again.
