The Twelfth Coach
Before the IFL season began, there were scheduled to be 4 new coaches: Dan Freeman, Don Frye, Ken Shamrock and Marco Ruas. All of these men are legends in their own countries in MMA and they all deserve resepect.
But if you look at the team list now you see that Freeman is not a coach. In fact, there is no UK based squad currently in the IFL.
For some reason or another, Freeman (who was the first of the new coaches introduced by the IFL) is not coaching a team. In his place is a man most new MMA fans have never heard of. His name is Igor Zinoviev. His only career loss in MMA is to fellow coach Frank Shamrock and he is, perhaps, one of the greatest of the great Russian fighting tradition.
When I say think of a great Russian fighter, you say Fedor. So do I.
Zinoviev only has 7 career fights, but, in Russia, he is still a legend. After a series of serious childhood illnesses, Zinoviev began fighting in EFC where he beat Jujitsu legen Mario Sperry.
Zinoviev's team fights out of Chicago, Illinois. Though they went 1-4 at IFL Atlanta, the Red Bears are, like most of these IFL teams, going to be interesting to watch, to see how the team concept develops as well as the individual fighters.
