IFL The International Fight League is an American mixed martial arts promotion billed as the world's first MMA league. Instead of the established norm for MMA events, where matchups are strictly one-on-one affairs, each IFL card is a showdown between two camps of at least three fighters, each fighter fighting one match against another in the opposing camps. The IFL is currently televised in the United States on FSN / Fox Sports Net.

Team concept

I was wondering if the IFL still have the team consept? I noticed that there are only 5 teams this year compared to last and now at last nights show thay didn't even have the team consept. Did they (IFL) change this? Any ways I was there last night and had great time met some of the fighters and even got my picture taken with a couple of the fighters Thanks for a great time IFL!! EG

Yes, they have dismantled the team concept.

I was really starting to like the concept of a team organized. It really made it interesting. Does anyone know why they stopped it?

Because you were the only one who liked it. Just joking.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I do recall an article that I'll summarize and paraphrase:

The team concept makes perfect sense and sounds good on paper. Baseball, basketball, football, soccer - sports fans are used to team sports. Combine the fastest growing sport with the team concept and you've got a homerun. - right?

Not necessarily.

Imagine team boxing, or golf, or ...

It's a shame it didn't work. It really did make a lot of sense.

They're going with 'camps' this time, which makes more sense, but it looks like too little too late.
