New here, used to train, wanna get back into it!

Hi all..thought I'd make an intro, I've been reading for a while but have decided to start to contribute in the threads for a change.

I started in martial arts when I saw Bruce lee movies at age 5 when visiting my relatives abroad. I use to imitate his moves..and thus my parents enrolled me in Karate (Goju Ryu).

I got my brown belt and move onto a form of hybrid Taekwondo/kickboxing called Pilsungdo when I moved to England and got my black belt in that.

Been a fan of the UFC since I saw UFC 1 on ppv and nowadays follow it religiously.

I would like to get back into martial arts, I workout but I've lost all flexibility which is sad, and I wear glasses now and hate contacts, so it's sad to think I may never be able to do what I used to, ohwell would like to just be able to have fun with it and spar etc again oneday and try out jiujitsu.

Welcome to the best MMA forum on the entire interwebs!

As for getting into a martial art again, I really, really recommend going for some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - funnest martial art I've ever had the pleasure of doing

As for the glasses, that kinda sucks - contacts would make everything easier, but you shouldn't wear them if you don't feel comfortable with it.

I say have a go at BJJ and see how it goes - it's free to try out at most gyms so that'd be my recommendation

Same issue, then I got laser eye surgery. Cost me a small fortune, but worth it...worth every penny. I mean I basically had my vision restored to an optimal level.

The older you get the harder it gets man. Plus it is quite costly to join a gym. I'd work out a discount deal with the head instructors. They're usually pretty cool with it and are happy to see new enthusiastic students.

Let me know how it goes...

Don't worry I was negative -975 in my right eye and -925 in my left...that's pretty bad. You can take a free test and the doctors will see if you're a good candidate. There's two types though; Lasek and (PRK) Photorefractive keratectomy. Lasik is where they cut a portion of your cornea then shoot lasers into your eye then the flap goes back in place. Sounds gross, but that's the just of it. PRK is where the laser shoots right through. It's not painful during the procedure because they freeze your eyeballs. Afterwards yes...I was in pain for five days cuz I had to wear contact lenses to protect my cornea while it healed which meant my vision was completely blurry and fuzzy. After that I could see again...
