i find on the internet the bigger the site the more it degrades. its blasphemy to say that of course, but look at youtube and imdb. look at the old sherdog when fighters actually posted before the trolls chased them away. mods come and ban people and just create 1000s of pissed off spawn accounts. a hive mind is developed and nurtured where people care more about belts and being part of the consensus than actually contributing and taking in knowledge and opinion. mods start to care more about what offends the hive than actually holding up the rules. and with 1000s of posters no one misses one.
eventually you have youtube style pages full of spam and white ebonic text speak.
the loss of core value through expansion will happen in a lot of walks of life, but online its unfettered.
unfortunately the solutions would be unpalatable to a commercially driven website. paradoxically a community driven website is actually likely to have less animosity and a broader range of opinion.
for instance on sherdog, your post would be met with a cool story bro and some other dumb shit. basically you would have people trying to attack you for no other reason than to get e points with their e friends. likewise on imdb the place has degenerated into a fan club for film stars and shows. any critical analysis is judged through the prism of is he dissing or is he giving props or recycling pointless fan feed.
il stop, but the internet is basically a reflection of real life and at the same time an inhuman beast that has its own legs and no brain to control itself. i tend to look at it as a pandoras box for information and that way i am happy whatever i meet.
all the best
