Rep Etiquette
I figured I'd make a thread to help aquaint some of the new members (and hopefully some old) with what I have always believed the rep function was for.
For those that dont know there is a place you can click below each posters avatar that alows you to leave positive or negative rep and a brief message for the poster, the green (good) or red dots (bad) below the avatar indicate how much good rep that poster has recieved, some people take a great deal of pride in there green dots and senselessly leaving negative rep will make you dislied quickly.
Now the purpose of Rep isnt a popularity contest, if you blindly love a fighter do not just neg rep every time somebody says something you disagree with, and example would be if you are a Chuck Lidell fan and I say that Chuck is a great striker but his BJJ is not on par with Nog, that would not be a neg rep worthy statement, its an opinion and one that is realistic and can be justified, now if I made an outlandish claim about how Sean Sherk could knock out Wanderlai Silva without even attempting in the slightest to justify it then that would be neg rep worthy as well as would any comment that unjustifiably belittles other posters or there intelligent discussion. I understand negative Rep for people who dont really want to discuss or debate opinions or have and interesting discussion but to those who seek to disrupt that peace by making outlandish claims and then continueing to argue there point without even trying to back it up with any kind of intelligent points.

Excellent job.
It took me awhile to even know about rep and I couldn't figure out at first what "+rep" meant in posts.
Great idea!

Another thing to add to this is to rep people back that rep you. It's only curteous and will make them want to rep you for future good posts you make.

I don't think this is entirely necessary. You don't have to rep them back, but if you see that they made a good post, it would be nice.
It is never enough to remind people to leave their names, doesn't matter if it's +/- reps, even though I know everyone who has -rep me has never left their names. I actually don't care if you -rep me as long as it is not for a stupid selfish reason.

Good thread for people like me who've joined recently and don't know the basics. I just repped someone without leaving my name (whoops) but it was pos rep and he can probably figure it out...
It would be cool if the basic rep info was in the FAQ or maybe if this was made a sticky. I had to look around a bit to find it, which is why I'm bumping. Pretty easy once you've done it one time, but still.
