This is sort of a re-introduction since I've been a member for two years now, but I fell off the face of the forum almost as long ago.
My name is Kenny. I'm 23 years old. My experience in MMA is very limited, having only trained in BJJ over the summer two years ago. For a number of reasons, I let my growing love for MMA fall away after my summer training ended.
Since then, I've found myself in the worse shape of my life. My last official measurements in a doctor's office showed me to be 5'11.75" and 239lbs. My last major check last week showed those numbers to be the same.
Over the last year, I lost (and regained) 20 pounds. I've tasted significant weight loss, and I want it again.
I've also realized just how much I've missed martial arts training. Not a week goes by that I don't talk about the BJJ class I took or otherwise wish I were training again.
I'm a full time student, and likely will be for several more years, but I've reasoned two things: One, I'm sick of being this out of shape. I want to be able to run without hating myself immediately. Two, I want to fight, and given the atrophying nature of the human body, I won't be able to do that forever.
In light of these things, I've decided to say "screw it, I'll stick with my educational plans, but I'm gonna work my butt off to get into fighting condition." It won't be easy to go from my condition to being a competent fighter (and given how late into the game I'm starting, I don't much think it plausible to make it into the bigtime), but I'm determined to do it.
So determined, I created a progress blog to keep me publicly accountable in my efforts as well as share whatever tips I may find with others. I call it From Fat Kid to Fighter
. Feel free to check it out and add your own two cents where you see fit. I figure, if nothing else, the threat of publicly admitting failure will force me to succeed.
I'm working out in some way or another every day, making sure to at least get some cardio in. As soon as I have some income happening, I'll be joining one of my area's best MMA gyms. In the meantime, I'm focusing on general fitness.
Long story short, I just wanted to say that it's good to be back. I've been lurking around over the last week, and I'll start contributing to discussions when I have something useful to add.
