Hey everyone. My name is Ell (short for Elliot), I'm 18 years old and I live in the UK and I'm a HUGE fan of MMA/UFC. I've always been inspired to get myself involved in some kind of Martial Art, but I haven't got round to it. However, since finishing this 12th season of the Ultimate Fighter, I feel like I'm ready to begin training.
(If these questions belong somewhere else, if you would be kind enough to re-direct me, it'd be very much appreciated!)
I'd just like to ask, what is the best martial art to get involved in? Around my area there are Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai & Taekwondo gyms. Where am I best to start if I want to further my career in MMA?
And secondly, I'm 18 years old already, am I too old to begin training towards an MMA career?
While watching TUF12, GSP & Jonathon Brookins have completely inspired me to finally get myself down to a gym and get myself motivated! I have been hitting the gym (weights) for 2 years now though, so I'm confident I have a lot of strength.
Thanks a lot!
Welcome ot the forum.
I can answer a few of your questions. First, 18 is not too old to start training. You're still easily young enough to get into the sport. Second, BJJ, Muay thai, boxing, wrestling - these are all very solid skills to train in. The best base anyone can have in MMA is wrestling, it compliments BJJ and lets you keep the fight where you want it.
If you want more in-depth coverage of your question, you can post it in the MMA Technique section, which you can find on the home page.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask the staff.
Thanks for the help! I'll have a look on the Technique section now.
