Kawajiri favorite to win DREAM LWGP

Quote:
Under the watchful eye of Japanese fans, who await the arrival of a new Pride, Dream debuts this Saturday in Tokyo in an event replete with stars. The new show, to substitute K-1 Heroes, will bring the first phase of the lightweight GP (under 70kg) and will include Gesias Cavalcanti (two-time Heroes champion), Andre Dida (finalist last show) and BTT representative Luis Buscape. Despite the good credentials going in to the competition, the Brazilians are not favorites to lift the title.

According to one of the best-known betting sites in the world of MMA, Bodog Life, the fans of the sports, especially the Japanese, seem to have faith in the performance of Tatsuya Kawajiri, who is coming off a win at Yarennoka over Luis Azeredo. In second place in gamblers’ preference comes Japanese grappler Shinya Aoki, JZ’s adversary in the first round.

The ATT representative took third, while former chuteboxer Dida and Buscape were in fourth and ninth respectively. Not highly regarded by the public, the Canadian Kultar “Black Mamba” Gill was in last place.

Another new piece of information about the event was the release of the bout order:

1-Minowa vs To be defined
2-Hayato "Mach" Sakurai vs Hidetaka Monma
3-Koutetsu Boku vs Joachim Hansen
4-Kazuyuki Miyata vs Luiz "Buscape"Firmino
5-Artur Oumakhanov vs Katsuhiko Nagata
6-Mitsuhiro Ishida vs Bu Kyung Jung
7-Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic vs Tatsuya Mizuno
8-Andre "Dida" Amade vs Eddie Alvarez
9-Tatsuya Kawajiri vs Kultar “Black Mamba” Gil
10-Shinya Aoki vs Gesias "J.Z." Cavalcanti

It makes sense that Kawajiri is the favorite. JZ and Shinya have to face each other in the first round so one of them won't make it to the 2nd round. Kawajiri is facing Gill so he should be a lock for the 2nd round.

Aoki is second? I can see Kawajiri based on the match-ups but I would pick JZ over Aoki. Interesting though. Man I want to see this soooo bad. I wonder if HDNet could get it to play after the fact?

I did NOT like Kawariji's performance against "Black Mamba"... I don't think he'll be able to beat Alvarez, JZ or even Ishida...

Kawijri has always been the favorite in my eyes. The only one that would challenge him is JZ.

I really, really hope Joachim comes out strong in all his GP fights though. Next to BJ there is not another LW I enjoy watching more than Hansen. He is just exciting everywhere the fight goes.

True, true, I love watching Hansen, as he's only had one fight that really made me go, "ugh.." and that was the Mitsuoka fight. He's since became the Hell Boy we all know and adore.

Hansen's a blast, I wouldn't mind seeing him win. Buscape vs Hansen would be a blast.

Kawajiri is the Sean Sherk of Japan. That can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on what kind of fight you like to see.

Its a good thing for him. His biggest problem in the past is when he abandoned his wreslting against good strikers and got into brawls(Gomi, Melendez).
