Aoki vs. Nagata!!!!!!!

Did anyone else get to see this this fight?

I watched it online yesterday and it was amazing! Who the hell does that? Not only did Aoki pull off a Gogoplata... he did it from mount! That is one of the pimpest subs I've ever seen. I think if I were to come up with a top 10 list of my favorite subs, Aoki would be at least half of them with this one on top.

How the hell was this fight not one of the main events? It was like the top of the undercard or something like that.

Wow...Anyone looking to see a submission master in action, check out this fight.

Yeah Bloodyelbow is holding a poll to try and name the sub he did:

"Shinya Aoki's New Submission
by Kid Nate on Jun 16, 2008 2:46 PM EDT in News

Everyone agrees that the submission Shinya Aoki pulled on Katsuhiko Nagata at DREAM 4 was the shizzle. But no one is quite sure what to call it.

As Michael David Smith from AOL Fanhouse says:

Shinya Aoki defeated Katsuhiko Nagata by first-round submission today at the Dream.4 event in Japan, and watching the way Aoki finished Nagata has me thinking Aoki might be the best submission artist in MMA right now.

Aoki's submission took advantage of his extreme flexibility to go from a full mount position to get his shin up toward Nagata's neck. It was so unique that no one is quite sure what to call it -- Jim Murphy at the Savage Science calls it an omoplata shoulderlock from the top mount, while Sherdog lists Aoki as having won with a gogoplata. Bas Rutten, calling the fight for HDNet, said he had never seen Aoki's submission before. When you've got a submission move that Rutten has never seen, you're doing something special.

Then you've got Matt C. over at 5oz calling it the Aoki-plata. Personally, I'm going with MMA-Core's nomenclature: the Locoplata.

Poll
What should Aoki's new submission be called?

Top-mount omoplata shoulderlock

Reverse gogoplata

Aokiplata

Locoplata

Pretty sick move.

It was only the 1st fight because it was the last fight from the LWGP Quarter Finals.

Yeah, great sub.

@ Walker
Well it seemed like a gogoplata to me, just from mount. I don't see how the hell "Jim Murphy at the Savage Science" called it an omoplata, how was it an omoplata? Thanks for the link anyway.

Fedor fights I want to see..

Fedor vs. Josh Barnett
Fedor vs. Randy Couture
Fedor vs. Tim Sylvia - DEMOLISHED
Fedor vs. Andrei Arlovski - DEMOLISHED

hmmmmm, i wonder how many become reality..

Yeah, gotta be pretty dense to think that's an Omaplatta. And I feel kind of ashamed because Bas didn't know what to call it and thought Nick Diaz was the first to do it.

He called it a gogo later on, but I think it was after a producer corrected him.

To be fair, though, he and Rice had already called 2 events that day and were calling their third from a studio. We're lucky that after that 12 hour on air marathon they not only still had voices but were conscious.

I was in complete disbelief when that happened.

There's already a submission called the locoplata so I vote for just calling it a reverse gogoplata.

How about we just call it.... an Aoki...

Simple, and it tells you exactly who invented it.

I don't get it, it's just a gogoplata from mount, it's not a "new move" or anything breakthrough, although it's incredible Shinya was able to pull if off. It's like pulling off a triangle from mount, that doesn't mean you go off calling it a new move, it's just a triangle from mount.

There's always gotta be a killjoy in the group

It's something nobody has every done before that I know of and it surpasses the Gogo in difficulty. That sounds worthy of a new name to me.
