It is a slightly different version. However, in "Mastering The Rubberguard" DVD there is a clip from 2005. In the clip it shows Eddie demonstarting to Aoki how to do it=. Aoki was amazed at all the Rubberuard techniques and thats why he incorporated so many into his game.

BTW, that clip of the Gogho from mount is not the one that Eddie showed Aoki. Aokis is alomst exactlylike the one he was taught. The one you showed is different as the he does not base out. Howver, its tite.

That is where the name came from. It really is nothnig like the Americana that it sounds similar too. But I liek the name.

Thanks for the props. Repped already. I thought it was catchy enough to catch on, but the relationship is more important. THe plata is a necessary par to f the name.

If you watch the video linked above, it looks like a different move than a gogoplata from the mount. It is similar in that it uses the shin to choke, but the positioning is different.

Aoki's version seems more difficult to pull off and requires much more flexibility. He also used his arms to pull the head up onto the shin, whereas in the Gogo from the mount in the video, the arm is used behind the head to pull the foot down on the neck.

Seems different to me.

Aokiplata!!!

Yea I go by what 10thplanet posts on their site because Those are Eddie's schools.

What Aoki did was bascially putting his chin across his opponents neck and just pulling his head up.

It's still a gogoplata from mount, even if it's not exactly the same form as a traditional gogoplata from mount. Much like how some triangle chokes can be finished without the arm (some!), or armbars can be finished with slightly different positioning of the legs, etc.

No, it's not a textbook gogo from mount, but it's still a gogo, whether it is textbook or not.

I got a gogo from mount in a grappling tourney but it was about 100 times sloppier then Aokis and I fall to my back and finish from there but I still consider it a gogo from mount. Heres the vid.
