Yoshihiro Akiyama is at a big point in his career right now. There are a number of huge, blockbuster fights in his horizon. This guy has more beef then a gangsta' rapper and drawing power like a pro wrestler. The Japanese fans love to hate him, and then Japanese chicks dig the "badass" with the silver hair.

Option 1: NYE 2006, marked the biggest scandal in Japanese MMA history. Korean judoka Yoshihiro Akiyama faced Japanese Icon Kazushi Sakuraba. The fight was the main event of the evening on a seemingly lackluster NYE Card, in comparison to the one that rival PRIDE FC was offering(Fedor/Hunt, Nog/Barnett II). But the fight left a bigger mark on the MMA world then anything else that big night. Akiyama crushed the Japanese superhero in the first round. However, controversy erupted as Sakuraba complained in the middle of the fight, that Akiyama was greased up. It was later revealed that Akiyama did indeed lube up before the fight and a massive scandal erupted. This made Akiyama the biggest heel in Japan and has fans starving for a rematch. While the fight will probably be a slaughter in the favor of Akiyama, it will be a big pay day for him, as well as an incredibly hyped up fight. Here is a video for you to see a glimpse of what happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6q_wVodzFU

Option 2: Last NYE, during the much anticipated Yarennoka! show(aka The Return of Fedor), Akiyama battled Japanese superstar and Pride MWGP Winner Kazuo Misaki. The FOTY candidate ended in controversy, as Misaki ended the fight with a borderline soccer kick. The fight was initially ruled a win for Misaki, and lead to an insulting and really tense post fight speech by Misaki, ripping Akiyama to shreds and embarrassing him. He insulted his manhood and his integrity. The fight was later overturned to a NC and this is a fight that MMA Fans are waiting for. Here is a clip of the entertainingly technical fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD7XZX_9kKM
Here is the best clip of the post fight I could get. I will try and get it in English soon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCnMh_U64Zc&feature=related

Edit: Special shout out to my boy Plazz for watching the fight live with me last NYE. Yareenoka baby!

Option 3: Being an active competitor in DREAM, it is highly rumored that he will take on the winner of the DREAM MWGP. Originally slated to take part in the tournament, Akiyama had to pull out due to injuries. Any of Moussaaa!, Galesic, Jacare or Manhoef would be entertaining and good fights for him.

Option 4: Akiyama's biggest win(atleast IMO) was his stoppage of Denis Kang in Seoul. The two Korean fighters(Kang is half) would make for an incredible rematch, especially in front of the Korean audience. Kang is coming off a loss to Moussaaa! but we all know the Jap orgs don't give a crap about records.

Option 5: And finally, Yoshi has been heavily rumored to go up against one of the most popular non Asian fighters in Japan, Mirko Cro Cop. Akiyama is heavily out sized in this match up and is a big underdog. Akiyama's only loss in his career was to Jerome Le Banner, a large Heavyweight Kickboxer. Things wouldn't look good for Aki in this fight, but it would be another big fight for him.

I purposely made this a non poll thread, so we can get more responses and less poll votes to bump up the activity in the DREAM section.

No matter what fight is next for Yoshi, he is one of the biggest stars in Japan, and his future is bright.

So what fight do you want to see? Vids and other fights aside from what I mentioned are welcome.

Man I LOVE Akiyama. Dream fight is Akiyama vs Anderson but since that wont happen I would say the fight most interesting to ME is a fight against the MWGP winner for the MW Title. Could very likely make him the champ and would be a great fight no matter who won the GP.

Secondly though I would LOVE to see him smash Misaki. I lost all respect for Misaki after their fight (and actually became a huge Akiyama fan then as well) and would like to see that fight again.

I'd like to see him get beat up, so Crocop:)

Seriously though, I think he would have a good fight with Silva. He'd do better than Cote anyway.

Realistically I'd like to see him fae Kang again.

I'm watcing ANY fight with Akiyama in it.

This guy doesn't know the definition of the word "decision".

I'd love to see him fight Anderson Silva, Yushin Okami, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin or any of the other UFC MW division.

Personally, I think there are many more exciting fights for Akiyama in UFC than any other organization right now.

Oh! come to think of it, the fight I'd want to see the most at the moment would be Akiyama vs Misaki 2.

Akiyama needs to beat some sense into that blabbering fool.

Akiyama vs. Misaki II.

Back and forth first fight with each guy dropping each other, then that crazy ass finish. I want more!

I think Misaki was way to cocky considering how the fight went down. Akiyama had him in big trouble and then he had to finish the fight with a soccer kick. I want to see Misaki get his overrated ass crushed.

So this is the deal: Akiyama has his not-thoughest-fight-to-date with a washed up Saku. Why cheat? He has fought like all his other matches wearing a gi. Why know all the rules concerning NO-GI fighting? I just think that a mistake is way more likely than him knowingly cheating in that situation.

I think the ref was more to blame in theat fight than Akiyama himself, since he did not at all notice the problems there was.

The greasy affair was taken way out of context IMO. Akiyama was shown lotioning up ON CAMERA. He obviously didn't know what was going on. That video on youtube is worse then a UFC Commercial. I remember when the affair was going on, Akiyama was getting bashed badly and nobody was defending him, when he wasn't totally at fault. K-1 Officials SAW the lubing up shit. Apparently(this may just be a cover up), it was anti-sweating lotion that he applied and got the go ahead from a K-1 rep. From what I remember Japanese dudes telling me, apparently K-1 told him to just run with it and become the Korean Heel. We all know the Japs hate the Koreans. I felt bad for Yoshi.

And we all know that he would have killed Saku no matter what.

I actually have a lot of difficulty believing you guys can be this retarded regaurding the lotion thing.
I mean, if Akiyama didn't have a well known history of being accused of greasing and wearing slippery Gis in Judo, fair enough but since he does:dunno:

He's a beautiful man, a beautiful man needs lotion.

There isn't a need for all this conspiracy, it's that simple.

Akiyama applied freakin' lotion while everyone was watching. It was no secret he used lotion.

Suddenly, after he shows Sakuraba a glimpse of the afterlife, he becomes a cheater because Sakuraba claims he was "slippery".

If the ref cleared Akiyama to fight, I wouldn't say it was Akiyama's fault for applying lotion but the ref's fault for allowing Akiyama to fight.

For the record, he used Olay lotion, it wasn't freakin' anal lube. Wow, make a big deal out of it.

So how do you explain the complaints he had a slippery gi in Judo competitions?

It didn't just happen once. Three times in one competition, fair enough, using the wrong detergent, lets help a brother out and take his word for it. Then it happens again....Okay, fair enough everyone deserves a third chance. Then he gets caught with lotion on his skin and says it was to treat a dry skin condition:confused03:

Seriously, are you people retarded?

Lol ok, I bet that was it. So why wouldn't the others have it if it was due to humidity? So 3 guys he beats complains about him having a slippery gi so he changes it and then loses his next two matches, still not suspisous right? What about against Nakamura?

The referee inspected Akiyama's gi when Nakamura complained, and let it continue. Akiyama then pulls off that wondrous uchi mata.
