Back when Mirko could box

A few videos displaying Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic in his young days in K-1.

His lightning speed, movement on his feet superb, the variation in his techniques is huge compared to today. He relies more on his fast and precise punches, even mixing it up with kicks not only aimed at the head. What a fighter...

Add all this to the fact that some his opponnents in these videos are top K-1 strikers.

This mixed arsenal of strikes is much more effective in opposition to his more onesided style lately.

Btw credit to Fedor>all for reminding me about the old Cro Cop.

No problem! His movement was so much better back then, very nimble---in and out, all the time. Now he's just so damn flat-footed, and ready to load up on big shots, instead of the combinations which set-up the power strikes.

Good links bro.

It's all true

But I don't think he's forgotten how - he just doesn't have the strength, speed, or reflexes anymore. Whether it's heart or biology I don't know

It's actually kind of interesting, but I noticed that the Mirko of today fights very similarly to the Mirko that fought Wanderlei Silva the first time. In that fight, Mirko didn't really throw the hands, and he wasn't quite as mobile on his feet, he really just loaded up on power shots and as a result he didn't really land anything huge. Then you watch the rematch, and you see how much of a difference his hands made, including the fact he was constantly moving on his feet.. the difference is truly night and day.

Its classic how after he knocks Wand out, he just walks around the ring like he is all pissed off, throws his trainers arm off his shoulder in anger.
Thats what he is missing these days,

I think Mirko's just too overtaken by the allure of his famous Headkick. He's just so focused on that that he doesn't want to try anything else.

I mean, it's not like you can forget all those skills, it's just that they've been pushed back further in his brain.

Plus, if his doctor isn't lying, his knee is pretty messed up, and that makes mobility pretty hard.

I think this is one hell of an understatement. Mirko was one of the few guys to face every fighter in the top 10 atleast 1-2 times, and funny thing is that he beat everyone of them except Hug and Hoost.

JLB
Hunt
Hoost x3
Aerts
Bonjasky
Feitosa
Bernardo
Musashi
Hug
Greco

That's one badass resume, and he held his own in all of them.

I agree PLazzmann, I was simple referring to the videos I was able to find that best illustrated how dramatically different he fought before.
